Special Order made by the Mangorei Road Board, County of Taranaki.

THE following special order, made by the Mangorei Road Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

SPECIAL ORDER made by the Mangorei Road Board at a Special Meeting held on the 22nd Day of January, 1898.

THAT a special rate of ¼d. in the pound be made and levied on the rateable value of all rateable properties in the Mangorei Road District, for the purpose of paying interest and other annual charges on a loan of £600, to be borrowed under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1882,” for the purpose of metalling about 120 chains of the Mangorei Road, commencing at the end of the present metal, and extending southerly ; such rate to be annually recurring for twenty-six years, and payable at the Board’s office in one sum on the 1st day of April in each year, commencing on the 1st day of April, 1898. The first year’s interest and cost of raising the loan to be paid out of the loan.

I hereby certify that the foregoing special order has been duly made by the Mangorei Road Board as required by “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

Extending Time for furnishing Report by Kauri-gum Commission.

NEW SIXTH-ORDER FLASHING LIGHT, NORTH BARNARD ISLANDS.

Notice is hereby given that a sixth-order double-flashing white light is now exhibited from the summit of the south-eastern island of the North Barnards, the focal plane being at an altitude of 292 ft. above high-water level.

The light is visible in clear weather at a distance of 16 miles seaward, between the bearings of approximately N. ¼ E. and S.E. ½ E., and shows a double flash every 10 seconds.

The structure is 10 ft. high, and consists of a circular lantern erected on a concrete base, and painted white.

In the event of accident to the electric motor or flashing apparatus a small fixed light will be exhibited.

Geographical position (approx.) : Lat. 17° 40′ 45″ S., Long. 146° 12′ 45″ E.—from Admiralty chart.
