Alteration of the Kaikoura River District, County of Kaikoura.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by “The River Boards Act, 1884,” it is, among other things, enacted that the Governor may, on petition signed by not less than two-thirds in number of the ratepayers of a river district, enlarge, alter, or diminish any such district; also that when any district is altered under the said enactment the Governor shall, in the Proclamation making such alteration, make such redistribution of the members of the Board as he shall think fit:
And whereas a petition, signed as aforesaid, has been duly presented, praying that the Kaikoura River District, established under the said Act, may be enlarged, and that the boundaries thereof may be those set forth in the Schedule hereto:
And whereas it is expedient to grant the prayer of the said petition:
Now, therefore, I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the above-recited power and authority, do hereby proclaim and declare that the boundaries of the said district shall be those set forth in the Schedule hereto; and also do hereby redistribute the members of the Kaikoura River Board as constituted immediately before the date when this Proclamation comes into force, and declare that such members shall be the members of the Board for the said district as enlarged hereby, and that this Proclamation shall come into force on the fourth day of August, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-eight.
SCHEDULE.
KAIKOURA RIVER DISTRICT.—EXTENDED BOUNDARIES.
All that area in the Marlborough Land District, situated in Mount Fyffe Survey District, bounded towards the north generally by a right line commencing on the left bank of the Kohai River 500 links north of the westernmost corner of Section No. 1, Mount Fyffe Survey District, and proceeding to the northernmost corner of that section; thence by the road forming the western boundary of Section No. 2, by the road forming the southern boundaries of Sections Nos. 2, 3, 4, and 5, by Section No. 52, by the road forming the northern boundaries of Sections Nos. 62, 63, 64, 65, and 66, by the road forming the eastern boundary of the last-mentioned section, across that road, and by Sections Nos. 67, 68, 69, 70, 71, 72, and 1 of 73, by the road forming the eastern boundary of Section No. 74, across that road, and by Sections Nos. 2 of 170, 169, 1 of 168, 167, 166, 165, 164, across a road, and by Sections Nos. 163, 162, 161, and the southern boundary-line of the last-mentioned section produced to the ocean: thence towards the east by the ocean to Charleston Creek: thence towards the south-west by that creek to a road forming the southern boundary of Section No. 223, Mount Fyffe Survey District, aforesaid; thence by that road and its continuation past Sections Nos. 291, 197, 133, 132, 128, 127, 126, and through Section No. 123 to the Kohai River aforesaid; thence by a line due west to the middle of that river: thence towards the west and south-west by a line along the middle of the said Kohai River to a point due west of the place of commencement: and thence again towards the north by a right line to the place of commencement.
