Result of Poll for Proposed Loan, Ekatahuna Road District,

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of
the Ekatahuna Road Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886.”

EKETAHUNA ROAD BOARD.
THE following is the result of a poll taken at the Road Board office, Ekatahuna, upon a proposal to raise a loan of £60 for formation and metalling, Bengston Street, Ekatahuna :—
Number of ratepayers on special roll, 10; number of pollable votes, 15: Number of ratepayers who voted for the proposal, 9, exercising 13 votes; number of ratepayers who voted against the proposal, none; number of ratepayers who did not exercise their votes, 1, being entitled to exercise 2 votes.
As the number of ratepayers who voted, and the number of votes recorded in favour of the proposal, are in each case a majority of the total numbers on the roll, I therefore declare the proposal carried.

“The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886.”
NOTICE of Result of Poll taken with respect to Proposal to borrow £350 for Construction of Lusk’s Road.
WHEREAS on Saturday, the 9th day of July, 1898, under the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” a poll of the ratepayers owning or occupying lands, and of persons being ratepayers in respect of lands, situate in that part of Hobson County being part of the Okahu Riding, and comprising Allotments Nos. 33 and 34 of the Parish of Whakahara, and Allotments Nos. 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 47, 48, 49, 74, 75, 76, 77, 78, 79, 80, 81, 82, 83, 84, 85, 90, 100, 101, 102, 103, 104, 105, 106, and 107 of the Parish of Okahu, was lawfully taken on the proposal (as in ballot-papers) : Now, notice is hereby given that the numbers of votes recorded for and against the said proposal were respectively as follows :—
For the said proposal, 12 ; against the said proposal, 0.
And, the majority of the ratepayers having voted in favour of the proposal, and the number so voting being entitled to more than one-half in number of the votes which could be exercised by the whole number of ratepayers entitled to vote on the said proposal, I, Alfred Ernest Harding, the Chairman of Hobson County, do hereby declare the said resolution to be carried.

Notice to the Public Trustee.

WHEREAS Daniel Graham Rogers, James Rogers, and Ellen Rogers are at present detained as inmates of St. Mary’s Industrial School, Nelson (a school established under “The Industrial Schools Act, 1882”), and such inmates are entitled to an interest in certain real property, being Rural Section 25476, containing by admeasurement 100 acres, and situate in the Alford District, in the Colony of New Zealand: And whereas it appears expedient to issue the direction hereinafter set forth: Now, I, William Campbell Walker, the Minister of Education, do hereby, in exercise of the power conferred by section 3 of “The Industrial Schools Act Amendment Act, 1895,” direct the Public Trustee to take possession of the above-mentioned property, and apply the same for the benefit of the said inmates.

DAY AND NIGHT SIGNALS, NEW PLYMOUTH.

THE New Plymouth Harbour Board have notified that on and after Monday, the 15th August, 1898, the following signals will be shown from the staff on the end of the wharf at New Plymouth, in lieu of those at present exhibited, namely :—
By Day.
- “Come alongside” : The burgee B, International Code.
- “Wait” : The pennant D, International Code.
- “Come to anchor” : The pennant F, International Code.
By Night.
- “Wait for daylight or next tide” : A white light over a red light.
- “Go on ; do not wait” : A red light over a green light.
- “Channel available for 9 ft. draught” : A green light over a white light.
- “Channel available for 11 ft. 6 in. draught” : A red light over a white light.
- “Channel available for 13 ft. draught” : Two white lights, one over the other.
- “Come alongside” : Two red lights, one on the extreme end of the wharf, and the other 600 ft. in, to show the line of wharf. There is no danger of mistaking the wharf-lights for the leading-lights, as they are much lower.
Charts, &c., affected : Admiralty Chart No. 2535 ; “New Zealand Pilot,” Chapter iv., pages 196 and 197.
