The cyanide of potassium shall be placed in a generator and the chamber immediately closed tightly, when the sulphuric acid shall be added. The chamber shall remain closed for not less than sixty (60) minutes. After the said trees, plants, cuttings, grafts, buds, seeds, pits, or scions have been treated with the hydrocyanic-acid gas as above directed, they shall (if deemed necessary by the Chief Inspector or Local Inspector) remain in quarantine fourteen (14) days for subsequent inspection and further treatment, or destruction by fire if necessary.

All trees, plants, cuttings, grafts, buds, seeds, pits, or scions imported or brought into the colony shall be inspected upon arrival at the first port or place of debarkation, and if found infested with injurious insects which cannot be destroyed by the remedies required by Rules 9 and 10 of these Orders, they shall be seized and destroyed by fire.

Consignees must deliver within forty-eight (48) hours of arrival the fruit, fruit-trees, packages, and transportable material requiring disinfection to the Chief Inspector or Local Inspector, and unpack and prepare them for disinfection. After disinfection, consignees or their agents must repack the fruit, fruit-trees, vine-cuttings, packages, or transportable material that have been disinfected, and remove the same within twenty-four (24) hours.

Any fruit, fruit-trees, vine-cuttings, packages, or transportable material delivered to the Chief Inspector or Local Inspector for disinfection, and not disinfected within forty-eight (48) hours by reason of the default of the consignee to provide the necessary labour for unpacking and repacking, may be destroyed by the Chief Inspector or Local Inspector.

Agents and other persons engaged or concerned in the importation of fruits and of fruit-trees, plants, cuttings, buds (other than vine-cuttings), or buds, seeds, pits, and scions, shall pay for the inspection, and, if necessary, the disinfection thereof, the fees set out in Schedules I. and II. respectively:—

Alterations to the Scale of Fares, Rates, and Charges in Force upon the New Zealand Government Railways.
IN pursuance of all powers and authorities enabling me under “The Public Works Act, 1894,” and any amendment thereof, and also of “The Government Railways Act, 1894,” I, Alfred Jerome Cadman, the Minister for Railways, do hereby make the following alterations in the scale of fares, rates, and charges in force on the New Zealand Government railways open for traffic, such alterations to come into force on and after the 4th day of July, 1898:—
PART II.—LUGGAGE, PARCELS, HORSES, ETC.
BICYCLES, TRICYCLES, VELOCIPEDIES, AND PERAMBULATORS.
Cancel—
Bicycles, tricycles, or velocipedes accompanying passengers must be fully and legibly addressed with the name and destination of passenger, and be at the railway-station at least fifteen minutes before the advertised time of departure of the train by which they are to be carried.
The department will not be responsible for bicycles, tricycles, velocipedes, or perambulators improperly left about the station premises.
Insert—

Sixpence (6d.) per ton per day will be charged on all goods not removed from Napier Station within twelve working-hours from the time of their arrival. Minimum charge, 6d.

AUCKLAND SECTION.
Cancel—
Copra, candlenuts, peanuts, rape-seed, linseed, sodas, and other raw material for the manufacture of oil, soap, candles, and acids, and earthenware empties for sulphuric acid, from Auckland and Onehunga to Westfield, and tallow from Mount Eden to Westfield, will be charged 3s. 6d. per ton, including all charges; minimum charge, 7s.
Oil, soap, candles, soda-crystals, refined tallow, sulphuric acid, and oilcake, from Westfield to Auckland or Onehunga, will be charged 3s. 6d. per ton; minimum charge, 7s.
Insert—
Copra, candlenuts, peanuts, rape-seed, linseed, sodas, and other material for use in the manufacture or packing of oil, soap, candles, and acids; machinery, either set up or in pieces; and empties, from Auckland, Mount Eden, and Onehunga to Westfield, will be charged 3s. 6d. per ton, including all charges. GREYMOUTH—HOKITIKA SECTION.
Timber.
Except where otherwise specified, timber consigned to Greymouth from the Hokitika line will be charged 1s. 1d. per 100 superficial feet for conveyance from distances over twenty-two miles and not exceeding twenty-four miles. This rate will include all charges on timber for export.
