I, RICHARD SIMMONDS, of Coromandel, in the Pro-
vincial District of Auckland, Clerk, do hereby give
public notice that by deed-poll bearing date the 6th day of
April, 1898, I did, for and on behalf of myself and my heirs
lawfully begotten, formally wholly and absolutely renounce
and relinquish the use of my proper surname of Smith, and
therein did declare that I had assumed adopted determined
and intended thenceforth in all records deeds documents
and writings, in all actions suits and proceedings, in all
dealings transactions and things, and upon all occasions
whatsoever, to use and subscribe myself by the name of
Richard Simmonds instead of Richard Simmonds Smith, so
as to be at all times thereafter called known described and
distinguished by the name of Richard Simmonds exclusively.
And furthermore, as regards and for the purposes of all
records deeds documents writings actions and proceedings,
dealings transactions and things, in which I had used or
subscribed or been called or known by the said name of
Richard Simmonds since my arrival in the Colony of New
Zealand until the date of such deed, I did in the said deed
declare and acknowledge that I had assumed and adopted
the said name of Richard Simmonds instead of the said
name of Richard Simmonds Smith.

I, EMILY SELINA SIMMONDS, wife of Richard Sim-
monds, of Coromandel, in the Provincial District of
Auckland, Clerk, do hereby give public notice that by deed-
poll bearing date the 6th day of April, 1898, I did formally
wholly and absolutely renounce and relinquish the use of
the surname Smith, in which name the said Richard Sim-
monds was married to me, and therein did declare that I
had assumed adopted and determined and intended thence
forth in all deeds documents and writings, in all actions
suits and proceedings, in all dealings transactions and things,
and upon all occasions whatsoever, to use and subscribe
myself by the name of Emily Selina Simmonds exclusively.

And furthermore, as regards and for the purposes of all
records deeds documents writings actions and proceedings,
dealings transactions and things, in which I had used or sub-
scribed or been called or known by the said name of Emily
Selina Simmonds since my marriage with the said Richard
Simmonds until the date of such deed, I did in the said deed
declare and acknowledge that I had assumed and adopted
the said name of Emily Selina Simmonds instead of the said
name of Emily Selina Smith.

BOROUGH OF KARORI.


NOTICE is hereby given that, on the 26th day of April,
1898, in accordance with “The Rating on Unimproved
Value Act, 1896,” a poll was taken over the borough on the
proposal, “That ‘The Rating on Unimproved Value Act,
1896,’ be adopted in the Borough of Karori, and henceforth
property be rated on the basis of the unimproved value
thereof.”

The following was the result:—

Total number of ratepayers .. .. 222
Number of ratepayers who voted at the poll.. .. 86
Votes for the proposal .. .. 93
Votes against the proposal .. .. .. 3
Informal .. .. .. 1

As more than one-third of the ratepayers voted, and a
majority of votes being in favour, I hereby declare the pro-
posal carried.
