THE following special order, made by the Egmont Road Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

SPECIAL order made by the Egmont Road Board at a special meeting held on the 9th April, 1898, viz.: “That for the purpose of providing interest and other charges on a loan of £100, to form and metal the Kaipi Road, commencing at its junction with the Egmont Road in the Moa District, authorised to be raised by the said Board under the provisions of ‘The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,’ do hereby make and levy a special rate of one penny and one-sixteenth of a penny in the pound upon the rateable value on the whole of Section 48, Hua and Waiwakaiho District, Taranaki County. That such rate shall be an annual recurring rate for a period of twenty-six years, and shall be payable in two equal instalments at the office of the said Board on the 1st day of January and the 1st day of July in each and every year during the currency of the loan. The first year’s interest and cost of raising the loan to be paid out of the loan.”
I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true copy of special order that has been duly made and passed by the Egmont Road Board, as required by the Road Boards Act.

THE following special order, made by the Taratahi-Carterton Road Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

SPECIAL order passed by the Taratahi-Carterton Road Board at a meeting held on the 8th day of January, 1898, and confirmed by the same at a meeting held on the 12th day of February, 1898:—
That, for the purpose of providing the annual interest and charges on a loan of £400, to be raised under the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” and “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” for the purpose of constructing the following cart-traffic roads—viz., that portion of Victoria Road from the southern boundary of Section 238, Blocks 6 and 10, Tiffin Survey District, to Dalefield Road, and that portion of Dalefield Road extending in a north-westerly direction from junction of Jervois Road to south-western corner of Section 237—this Board do now make and levy a special rate, annually recurring for twenty-six years, of one-sixth of a penny in the pound, payable in two equal instalments, on the 1st day of December and the 1st day of June in each year, equally over all the rateable properties within the following boundaries, to be called “The Victoria and Dalefield Roads Special Rating District”: All that area of land bounded on the south and west by Sections 232, 231, 230, and 229, Block 10, Section 233,
Allotment 10 of Section 236, Section 222 to western corner of Section 351, Block 9, all in the Tiffin Survey District; thence by a straight line from said corner of Section 351 towards Mount Waichine to boundary of No. 6 Subdivision; thence by said boundary in a south-easterly direction to the boundary of the Borough of Carterton; thence by boundary of said borough in a south and easterly direction to Main Road; thence by Main Road in a southerly direction to Waichine River; thence up stream in a westerly direction to north-eastern corner of Section 232, Block 10, Tiffin Survey District.

THE following is the result of poll on the proposal to borrow £400 for construction of Middle Road, Apiti Riding:—
Number of ratepayers on roll, 4, representing 10 votes: votes recorded for proposal, 9; number of ratepayers voting, 3; votes against, nil.
As a majority in number of the ratepayers voted in favour of the proposal, and the number so voting are entitled to more than one-half of the votes that can be exercised by the whole number of ratepayers, I hereby declare the proposal to be carried.

THE following is the result of a poll taken on the 20th April, 1898, on a proposal to borrow £330 under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” to clear, form, metal, &c., Mangamaire Road North, from Bridge Road Junction to H. Fisk’s gate.
Number of ratepayers on roll, 4, representing 4 votes; number of ratepayers who voted for the proposal, 4.
I therefore declare the proposal carried.

Notification of Vacancy of Seat in the House of Representatives for the Electoral District of Mataura.
IN compliance with the provisions of the 135th section of “The Electoral Act, 1893,” I hereby notify that the seat of the Honourable George Frederick Richardson in the House of Representatives for the Electoral District of Mataura did, under the provisions of subsection (4) of section 130 of the said Act, become vacant on the 19th day of April, 1898, by reason of his having been adjudged a bankrupt.
