Notice of Request to amend Specification.
Patent Office,
Wellington, 16th February, 1898.
A REQUEST for leave to amend the specification (including drawings) relating to the under-mentioned application for Letters Patent has been received, and is open to public inspection at this office. Any person may, at any time within one month from the date of this Gazette, give me notice in writing of opposition to the amendments. Such notice must set forth the particular grounds of objection and be in duplicate. A fee of 10s. is payable thereon:—
No. 10286.—10th January, 1898.—GEORGE HALL, of Leperton, Taranaki, New Zealand, Settler. An improvement in ear-marks for live-stock.
The nature of the proposed amendments is as follows, viz.:
(1.) To strike out the words “a cone-shaped point, as shown at A, figs. 1 and 7,” after the word “with,” line 7, page 2, and to insert instead the words “an angular groove near the end, which is bevelled, as shown at A, fig. 2.”
(2.) To strike out “figs. 4 and 7,” line 10, page 2, and insert instead “fig. 5.”
(3.) To strike out “figs. 4 and 7,” line 12, page 2, and insert instead “fig. 5.”
(4.) To strike out “figs. 4, 6, and 7, with a hole G through its centre slightly larger than the stud A, but not so large as the cone on the point of A. Radiating from the hole G are several slits,” lines 14 to 18, page 2, and to insert instead the words “This spring-plate is in the form of a flat ring with two inwardly-projecting arms, which are bent upwardly at an angle, as shown in section in fig. 6. The points of these upwardly-projecting ends are slit so as to allow the end of the pin A to pass them easily, and which will, when the head of the pin has passed, grip firmly in the angular groove hereinbefore described.”
(5.) To strike out the words “slightly larger than the cone-head of the stud A, but smaller than the recess C in the back plate B,” lines 22 to 24, page 2, and insert instead the words “as shown in fig. 3.”
(6.) To strike out the word “cone,” line 8, page 3, and insert instead the word “bevelled.”
(7.) To strike out the words “the radial slits in the plate from the hole G,” lines 9 and 10, page 3, and insert instead the words “the slit ends of the upwardly-projecting arms in the said spring-plate.”
(8.) To strike out the word “cone,” and insert instead the words “head of the pin A,” line 11, page 3.
(9.) To strike out the words “cone, as shown in fig. 7, and as the hole in the covering disc H is smaller than the diameter of the ends of the radial slits in the spring-plate F they cannot open backwards, and, consequently, the stud cannot be withdrawn,” and insert instead the words “head of the pin A, and as the arms of the spring-plate F rest upon the back plate H it is impossible to withdraw the pin A,” lines 13 to 17, page 3.
(10.) To strike out the words “cone-headed,” and to insert the words “with an angular groove,” after the word “stud,” line 7 of the claims, page 4.
(11.) To strike out the words “with a centre hole and radial slits,” after the words “spring steel,” lines 11 and 12 of the claims, page 4.
(12.) To strike out the words “cone-headed stud,” and insert instead the words “stud with an angular groove,” line 14 of the claims, page 4.
(13.) To strike out the words “a hole in the centre with radial slits therefrom,” and insert instead the words “two arms with upwardly-projecting split ends,” lines 15 and 16 of the claims, page 4.
(14.) To strike out the word “cone,” line 17 of the claims, page 4.
(15.) To strike out certain diagrams in the drawings, and insert three others, with letters of reference, and to make alterations in fig. 3.
The applicant states, “My reasons for making this amendment are as follow: In order to give the spring-plate a better grip of the pin A; to allow of the two plates being easily pressed together; and to reduce the weight of the entire article.”

Registrar.
