Edin., hereby give notice that I have this day, 28th October, 1897, deposited evidence of my qualifications with the Registrar of the Christchurch District, and that I shall apply to be registered under the New Zealand Medical Act on the 28th November, 1897.

I HEREBY declare that the following is the result of the poll taken this 19th day of October, 1897, upon a demand that a proposal to adopt “The Rating on Unimproved Value Act, 1896,” be submitted to the vote of the ratepayers:—

Number of votes recorded for the proposal .. 267
Number of votes recorded against the proposal .. 199
Informal .. .. .. .. 5
Number of ratepayers on the roll .. .. 908
Number of ratepayers who have recorded their votes .. .. .. .. 271

“No such proposal shall be deemed to be carried unless affirmed by a majority of the valid votes recorded, and at least one-third of the ratepayers on the roll recorded their votes.”

As one-third of the ratepayers on the roll have not recorded their votes as provided for in the above Act, I hereby declare the proposal rejected.
