Rural Lands in the Auckland Land District open for Sale or Selection.

RANFURLY, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one hundred and thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the twenty-second day of December, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-seven; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any land containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

These sections are portion of the Opuatia Block, and comprise broken forest lands, volcanic and clay soil, well watered. Situated from eight to ten miles from Onewhero Post-office, and about five miles from Port Waikato. The road to the sections has not yet been formed, access at present being by rough tracks.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this fourteenth day of October, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-seven.

Pastoral forest country, the timber consisting principally of birch, rimu, miro, rata, &c., with a thick undergrowth of rangiora, mokimoki, pepper-tree, with supplejack on the flats. About one-half of the section is level, the balance undulating and broken; well watered; light soil, varying from fair quality on the flats to poor and stony on the ridges. Distant five miles from Norsewood Village.

Broken forest country, timber being similar to other sections. About a third of the section is fairly flat land; well watered; light soil of fair quality on the flats, though poor and stony on the higher spurs and ridges. About five miles and a half from Norsewood.
