HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to ap-
prove of the issue of the New Zealand war medal to
HENRY FRANCIS MANNING,
late Private, Taranaki Mounted Volunteers, whose claim
has been investigated and admitted.

Notice of Proposed Addition to the Borough of Linwood.

Wellington, 12th October, 1897.
A PETITION having been presented to His Excellency
the Governor praying that the district described in
the Schedule hereto might be incorporated in the Borough
of Linwood, His Excellency directs it to be notified that,
unless within two months from the publication hereof a
petition or petitions, as required by section 32 of "The
Municipal Corporations Act, 1886," is or are presented to
His Excellency, he will proceed to incorporate the said dis-
trict into the said Borough of Linwood.
SCHEDULE.
ALL that area in the Canterbury Land District, containing
by admeasurement 200 acres, more or less, being Rural
Section No. 326, situated in Christchurch Survey District.
Bounded towards the north by Woodham Road, towards
the east by the road forming the western boundary of Rural
Section No. 901, towards the south-east by Buckley's Road,
and towards the south-west by Canal Reserve Road.

the Moa Road Board, is published in accordance with
the provisions of "The Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1886."

MOA ROAD BOARD.
RESULT of poll of ratepayers of the Rugby Road Special
Rating District, taken 12th October, 1897, upon the follow-
ing proposals:—
Proposal to raise a loan for Rugby Road Special Rating
District, upon which a poll will be taken upon the 12th day
of October, 1897,—(1) To form and metal a portion of the
Rugby Road from the end of the existing metal to the Ross
Road; (2) to borrow for such purpose the sum of £300
under "The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886";
(3) to strike as security for such loan a special rate of 3d.
in the pound; (4) to constitute the Rugby Road Special
Rating District, to comprise the following lands—viz., Sec-
tions 41, part 78, 79, 80, 81, 82, 83, 84, 85, 86, 88, 89, 90, 91,
92, 93, 94, 95, Moa.
Total number of ratepayers on special roll, 11; total
number of votes exercisable, 13: Total number of votes
recorded for the proposal, 10; total number of votes against,
nil; total number of votes not recorded, 3.
I hereby declare the proposal carried.

the Stratford County Council, is published in accord-
ance with the provisions of "The Local Bodies' Loans
Act, 1886."

STRATFORD COUNTY COUNCIL.
RESULT of poll taken on the 7th day of October, 1897, upon
the proposal to borrow £1,760, under "The Government
Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886," to form, grade, and
metal the Climie Road, in the South Riding:—
Number of ratepayers on special roll, 16; number of
votes exercisable, 17: Number of ratepayers voting in
favour of the proposal, 13; number of votes recorded in
favour of the proposal, 13; number of ratepayers voting
against the proposal, nil.
I declare the above proposal to be carried.

thereof, for metalling Portion of Scott Road.
Notice is hereby given that the poll of ratepayers taken on
the 11th instant resulted as follows:—
Number of voters on roll, 4; number of votes exercisable,
7: Number of voters for proposal, 3; number of votes for
proposal, 6; number of voters against proposal, 1; number
of votes against proposal, 1.
I therefore declare the proposal to be carried.

TAKAPAU ROAD BOARD.
THE following special order was made by the Takapau
Road Board, at a meeting held on the 8th day of September,
1897:—
"That the provisions of 'The Local Bodies' Loans Act,
1886,' be adopted generally by the Takapau Road Board,
and that the same shall be in force from the 13th day of
October, 1897."
I hereby declare that the above special order has been
duly made in conformity with "The Road Boards Act,
1882."

Murder.—Free Pardon.—£500 Reward.

Wellington, 20th October, 1897.
WHEREAS on the 18th September last the dead
body of Henry Satherley was found in the Opawa
River, near Blenheim: And whereas, at an inquest held on
the 20th and 21st of the same month it was shown that
death was caused by a blow upon the head, and a verdict of
"Wilful murder" against some person or persons was
returned:
Notice is hereby given that His Excellency the Governor
will grant a free pardon to any person, not being the principal
offender, who shall give such information as will lead to the
conviction of the murderer or murderers; and a reward of
£500 will be paid to any person, not being the principal
offender, who shall first give such information.
