THE following special order, made by the Manganui Road Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

MANGANUI ROAD BOARD.
Notice is hereby given that the following special order was made on Saturday, 21st August, 1897, and confirmed on Monday, 20th September, 1897: “That, to secure the repayment of a loan of £1,400 raised under ‘The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,’ for the purpose of metalling the Salisbury Road from its junction with the Beaconsfield Road northwards, a distance of about four miles, to strike as security on this loan a special rate of 1¾d. in the pound over the following lands: namely, Sections 19, Block IX.; 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 38, 40, 41, 43, 44, 45, 46, Block X.; 14, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, Block XIII.; 1, 2, 3, 42, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, Block XIV., Huiroa Survey District. Such rate to be an annually-recurring rate for twenty-six years, and shall be payable in two half-yearly instalments on the 1st January and the 1st July in each year.”
I hereby certify that the above special order was duly made in accordance with “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

THE following special order, made by the Frankley Road Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

THE FRANKLEY ROAD DISTRICT ROAD BOARD.
By-law regulating Traffic on Roads.
In pursuance of the powers and authorities conferred on it by “The Road Boards Act, 1882,” and “The Public Works Act, 1894,” and the Acts amending the same, and of all other powers in that behalf it enabling, the Frankley Road District Road Board doth hereby by special order make and ordain the following by-law, to have force and effect on all district roads within the said road district, and to come into force on the fourteenth day after the date of the issue of the New Zealand Gazette wherein the same shall be first published.

No person shall use any metalled or gravelled road by the traction thereon of a wagon carrying unsawn or sawn timber, and commonly used for such purpose, unless the tire of each wheel thereof shall be at least five inches in width.

No person shall use any metalled or gravelled road by the traction thereon of any vehicle carrying firewood, timber, iron, stones, earth, or other heavy material, and commonly used for any such purpose, unless the tire of each wheel thereof shall be at least four inches in width.

No person shall use any metalled or gravelled road by the traction thereon of any light two-wheeled dray without springs, carrying produce or stores such as are usually carried by light drays used by farmers, unless the tire of each wheel thereof shall be at least two inches and a half in width.

No person shall use any metalled or gravelled road by the traction thereon of any light four-wheeled vehicle with springs, carrying milk, stores, or produce, unless the tire of each wheel thereof shall be at least one inch and three-quarters in width if drawn by not more than two horses, and two inches and a half in width if drawn by more than two horses.

No person shall use any metalled or gravelled road by the traction thereon of any light two-wheeled vehicle with springs, carrying milk, stores, or produce, unless the tire of each wheel thereof shall be at least one inch and a half in width if drawn by not more than one horse, and two inches in width if drawn by more than one horse.

No person shall use any part of any metalled or gravelled road by the traction thereon of any vehicle unless all the wheels of such vehicle shall be either wholly off or wholly on the metalled or gravelled part of such road.

No person shall, after sunset, drive any horse attached to any vehicle or ride any bicycle or tricycle on any road unless furnished with sufficient lights.

No person shall ride any bicycle or tricycle on any road so as to pass any vehicle (going in an opposite direction) at a greater pace than four miles an hour.

No person shall, between sunset and sunrise, drive any loose horse along any road at other than a walking pace.

If any person shall commit a breach of any of the provisions of this by-law he shall be liable, upon conviction for such breach, to a penalty of not exceeding £5.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan, Waimakariri-Ashley Water-supply Board, County of Ashley.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Waimakariri-Ashley Water-supply Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Water-supply Act, 1891.”

WAIMAKARIRI-ASHLEY WATER-SUPPLY DISTRICT.—BROWN’S ROCK SUBDIVISION.
Poll for Loan of £3,000.
THE following is the result of the poll taken in the Brown’s Rock Subdivision of the district on Tuesday, the 7th day of September, 1897:—
Number of ratepayers on roll, 306, representing £514,130: Number of votes recorded for the proposal, 159, representing £345,563; number of votes recorded against the proposal, 5, representing £3,327; unrecorded, 142, representing £165,240.
As the number of ratepayers voting in favour of the proposal exceeds half the total number of ratepayers on the roll, and the number so voting represent more than three-fifths of the total rateable value of the rateable property, I declare the proposal carried.

Form of Declaration.
I, John O’Halloran, of Glentui, Bennett’s, sheep-farmer, Chairman of the Waimakariri-Ashley Water-supply Board, do solemnly and sincerely declare that all proceedings required by “The Water-supply Act, 1891,” “The Counties Act, 1886,” and amendments thereto, and “The Regulation of Local Elections Act, 1876,” and amendments thereto, to be taken in or towards obtaining the sanction of the ratepayers of the Brown’s Rock Subdivision of the Waimakariri-Ashley Water-supply District to the proposal to raise a special loan of £3,000 for the completion of the system of water-supply from the River Waimakariri at Brown’s Rock for the service of the lands within the Brown’s Rock Subdivision of the district, have been duly taken, and that the resolution in favour of the proposal has been duly carried; and I make this solemn declaration conscientiously believing the same to be true, and by virtue of the provisions of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled “The Justices of the Peace Act, 1882.”
