on the western boundary-line of the last-mentioned
section distant about 15 chains from its south-west-
ern corner; thence by a right line running parallel to

last-mentioned section; thence by a right line to a point on
the north-western boundary-line of Section No. 1 distant

north-eastern corner: thence towards the south-east gene-
rally by Kopane Native Reserve No. 347 to the Oroua River;
thence by the said Oroua River to the eastern boundary-line
of Section No. 18, Block VIII., Te Kawa Survey District:
thence towards the west by that section to the road forming
its northern boundary: thence towards the south-west gene-
rally by the road forming the northern boundaries of Sec-
tions Nos. 18, 19, 20, and 24, Block VIII. aforesaid, to the
north-western corner of the last-mentioned section; thence
by that section and by Sections Nos. 64, 63, 62, Block VIII.,
32, 31, Block VII., and 30 and 29, Block VIII., across a road,
and by Sections Nos. 36 and 38, Block VII., to the road form-
ing the northern boundary of the last-mentioned section;
and thence by the road forming the northern boundaries
of Sections Nos. 38, 39, 40, and 41, Block VII.: and again
towards the west by the road forming the western boundary
of Section No. 5, Block III., Te Kawa Survey District, to
the place of commencement: excepting from the above-
described area Sections Nos. 2, 13 to 16 (inclusive), 25, 29
to 36 (inclusive), 65 to 74 (inclusive), 79, 81, 92 to 96 (inclu-
sive), 109, 111, 112, 120 to 130 (inclusive), 132, 133, 140, and
142 to 444 (inclusive), Township of Rongotea.
Also, all that area in the Wellington Land District, being
Sections Nos. 34 and 36, Block III., Te Kawa Survey
District, bounded towards the north-east by Sections Nos.
30, 31, 32, and 33; towards the south-east by Section No. 1;
towards the south-west by Section No. 37, Block III., Te
Kawa Survey District; and towards the north-west by the
Carnarvon–Sandon Tramway.

HORSE-SHOE DRAINAGE DISTRICT (EXTENDED BOUNDARIES).
All that area in the Wellington Land District, situated in
the County of Manawatu, bounded towards the north
generally by Sections Nos. 30, 31, 32, 33, 231, 232, 238,
and part of 4, Block III., Te Kawa Survey District, to a
point on the western boundary of the last-mentioned section
about 48 chains from its north-western corner; thence by
a right line intersecting the said Section No. 4 and running
parallel to its southern boundary-line to the road forming
the eastern boundary of that section; thence by a right line
to a point on the eastern boundary-line of Section No. 5
distant about 20 chains from its south-eastern corner;
thence by a right line running parallel to the road forming
the southern boundaries of Sections Nos. 6, 7, and 8, Block
III., Te Kawa Survey District, to the eastern boundary-
line of the last-mentioned section; thence by that boundary-
line to the westernmost corner of Section No. 11, Block
VII.; thence by that section, the crossing of a road, and

Licensing Edward Johnson to use and occupy a Part of
the Foreshore of Horse-shoe Bay.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this twenty-third
day of August, 1897.
Present:
His Excellency the Governor in Council.
WHEREAS, there being no Harbour Board empowered
to grant the license hereinafter mentioned, Edward
Johnson, of Horse-shoe Bay, Stewart Island (hereinafter
called “the licensee”), has applied to the Governor in
Council for a license under “The Harbours Act Amend-
ment Act, 1883” (hereinafter called “the said Act”), to
occupy a part of the foreshore, and the land below low-water
mark immediately contiguous to such foreshore, in order
to erect and maintain thereon a fish-shed in Horse-shoe Bay,
Stewart Island, off the approach to the Horse-shoe Bay
Wharf; and, in accordance with the one hundred and fifty-
sixth section of “The Harbours Act, 1878,” has deposited a
plan in the office of the Marine Department at Wellington
(marked M.D. 2140), showing the place in the said bay
where it is intended to erect such shed, and the area
of foreshore or land below low-water mark intended to be
occupied for such purpose: And whereas it has been made to
appear to the Governor in Council that the proposed work
will not be or tend to the injury of navigation; and the said
plan has, prior to the making of this Order in Council, been
approved by the Governor in Council: And whereas it is
expedient that a license under the said Act, for the purpose
aforesaid, should be granted and issued to the licensee on
the terms and conditions hereinafter expressed:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the
Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of
the power and authority vested in him by the said Act,
and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council
of the said colony, doth hereby approve of the purpose or
object for which the said license is required by the licensee
as aforesaid, and in further pursuance and exercise of the
said power and authority, and with the like advice and consent
as aforesaid, doth hereby license and permit the licensee to
use and occupy that part of the foreshore and of the land
below low-water mark immediately contiguous thereto which
is particularly shown and delineated on the plan so deposited
as aforesaid, for the purpose of constructing or erecting
thereon a fish-shed; such license to be held and enjoyed by
the licensee upon and subject to the following terms and
conditions, that is to say:—

In these conditions the term “Minister” means the
Minister having charge of the Marine Department, as de-
fined by “The Shipping and Seamen’s Act, 1877,” and in-
cludes any officer, person, or authority acting by or under
the direction of such Minister. -
The concessions and privileges conferred by this Order
in Council shall extend and apply only to the part of the
foreshore and of the land below low-water mark shown on
the said plan marked M.D. 2140. -
In consideration of the concessions and privileges
granted by this Order in Council, the licensee shall pay to
the Minister the sum of five pounds, and thereafter the
annual sum of ten shillings, the first of such annual pay-
ments to be made on the licensee being supplied with a copy
of this Order in Council. -
That the rights, powers, and privileges conferred by
this Order in Council shall continue in force for fourteen
years, computed from the date of this Order in Council,
unless in the meantime such rights, powers, and privileges
shall be altered, modified, or revoked by competent au-
thority; and the licensee shall not assign, charge, or part
with any such right, power, or privilege without the pre-
vious written consent of the Minister first obtained.
