Rural Lands in the Taranaki Land District open for Sale or Selection.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one hundred and thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, James Prendergast, the Administrator of the Government of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the twenty-ninth day of September, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-seven; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any land containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

Section 29, Block IX., Mimi.—About seven miles from Tongaporutu; all forest, chiefly table-land; altitude, from 50 ft. to 700 ft. above sea-level; well-watered pastoral country, within one mile of a river navigable by canoe; papa formation.

Sections 1 and 3, Block XIII., Pouatu.—Situate about forty-seven miles from Stratford, and within one mile of the Ohura Road, which is formed for dray-traffic. They comprise more or less broken pastoral country, covered with forest, generally of light quality, with a fair amount of flat land in the valleys; papa formation. The valleys rise 700 ft. above sea-level, and the ridges about 1,300 ft. to 1,400 ft.

Section 11, Block II., Omona.—Part of the Gatton Special Settlement, and fronting Mangaehu River and Road. About 40 acres flat; formation papa; well watered, and good pastoral country. Forest comprises rimu, rata, tawa, &c., and usual undergrowth. About twenty-two miles from Stratford. The Mangaehu Road is open to within a quarter of a mile of the section.

Section 2, Block II., Omona.—Part of the Gatton Special Settlement, and fronting Mangaehu River and Road. Fair pastoral country; well watered; papa formation. Covered with forest, comprising rimu, rata, towai, and other trees, with usual undergrowth. The boundary-lines have been cleared and grassed, for which the section is weighted with £45, and which must be paid with application. About twenty-one miles from Eltham or Stratford.

Sections 10 and 11, Block XIV., Ngatimaru.—These sections form part of the Eltham Special Settlement, and are close to the Township of Strathmore. They comprise fair pastoral country, covered with forest of rimu, rata, tawa, &c., and usual undergrowth. The formation is papa, and is well watered. The Taihore Road is opened for horse-traffic past the sections.

Sections 8 and 9, Block XV., Ngatimaru.—Part of Eltham Special Settlement, and within a mile of Strathmore Township by the Brewer Road, which is open for horse-traffic. Good pastoral country, papa formation, covered with forest of rimu, rata, tawa, &c., and well watered.

Section 22, Block XI., Mimi.—Situate on the Mimi Road, about thirteen miles from Urenui. The road is formed for dray-traffic past the section. The land comprises broken pastoral country, well watered, papa formation. There are a few acres of level land. The timber is chiefly tawa, rimu, and kohekohe, with usual undergrowth. There are thirty-eight acres felled and grassed, and a small hut has been erected on the section.

Sections 2, Block XIII., Pouatu, and 4, Block IX., Pouatu.—Situate about forty-seven miles from Stratford, and within one mile of the Ohura Road, which is formed for dray-traffic. They comprise more or less broken pastoral country, covered with forest of generally light quality. There is some flat land in the valleys; the formation is papa. The valleys rise 700 ft. above sea-level, and the ridges about 1,300 ft. to 1,400 ft.

Section 17, Block II., Omona.—Rough pastoral land, covered with bush, consisting principally of rimu, rata, tawa, &c., and usual undergrowth; papa formation; well watered. Frontage to Tututawa Road, which is not yet opened for traffic. Distance from Stratford, twenty miles. Part of Gatton Special Settlement.

Section 7, Block II., Omona.—Rough pastoral land, covered with bush, consisting principally of rimu, rata, tawa, &c., with usual undergrowth; papa formation; well watered. Frontage to Mangaehu Road, which is open for horse-traffic. Distance from Stratford, twenty miles. Part of Gatton Special Settlement.

Section 10, Block II., Omona.—Weighted with £15 valuation for improvements. Rough pastoral land, covered with bush, with the exception of about 20 acres which have been felled. The timber consists principally of rimu, rata, tawa, &c., with usual undergrowth; papa formation; well watered. The Mangaehu Road is cleared to the section. Distance from Stratford, about twenty-one miles. Part of Gatton Special Settlement.

Section 6, Block XV., Upper Waitara.—Weighted with £10 valuation for improvements. Broken pastoral country, fair soil; papa formation; well watered. There are about 10 acres of flat land on the section. The timber comprises rata, rimu, &c., with usual undergrowth. The Matau Road is open for horse traffic to the section. Distance from Inglewood, twenty-eight miles.
