THE following special order, made by the Patea East and Patea West Road Boards, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

PATEA WEST ROAD BOARD AND PATEA EAST ROAD BOARD (JOINTLY).

New Traffic By-laws.

THE following by-laws are made by the Patea West Road Board and Patea East Road Board (jointly), duly constituted under “The Road Boards Act, 1882,” consistently with the powers in that behalf contained in “The Public Works Act, 1894,” and the amendment thereof:—

  1. No firewood shall be conveyed in wagons, carts, or other vehicles on, over, or upon any road or roads under the care, control, or authority of the Patea West Road Board and Patea East Road Board between the following days in each year—that is to say, the 14th day of May and the 14th day of September—in contravention of section 130 of “The Public Works Act, 1894.”

  2. No heavy traffic shall be conveyed over any road under the control of the Patea West Road Board and Patea East Road Board in any manner howsoever or by any means whatsoever between the 14th day of May and the 14th day of September in each year.

  3. Any corporation, partnership, or person committing a breach of either of the foregoing by-laws Nos. 1 and 2 shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding £5 for the first breach thereof, a penalty of not less than £1 nor more than £5 for the second breach thereof, and a penalty of not less than £3 nor more than £5 for the third or any subsequent breach thereof.

Appointing Sittings of Magistrate’s Court.

to be a place wherein sittings of the Magistrate’s Court shall be held, in lieu of the Rechabite Hall, previously appointed.

Certificate and Declaration of Execution of Criminal.

THE following certificate and declaration are published in conformity with the provisions of “The Criminals Executions Act, 1883.”

CERTIFICATE.

I, THOMAS WYLD PAIRMAN, the Medical Officer in attendance at the execution of William Sheehan at the prison of Lyttelton, do hereby certify and declare that I have this day witnessed the execution of the said William Sheehan at the said prison; and I do further certify and declare that the said William Sheehan was, in pursuance of the sentence of the Supreme Court, hanged by the neck until his body was dead.

Given under my hand, this twenty-first day of July, in the year one thousand eight hundred and ninety seven, at the prison of Lyttelton.

DECLARATION.

We do hereby testify and declare that we have this day been present when the extreme penalty of the law was carried into execution on the body of William Sheehan, convicted at the Criminal Session of the Supreme Court held at Christchurch on the 31st day of May last, and sentenced to death; and that the said William Sheehan was, in pursuance of the said sentence, hanged by the neck until his body was dead.

Removal of Prohibition of the Importation of Swine into Australia from New Zealand.—Notice No. 492.

Notice of the Laying-off of Roads through Whaiti-Kuranui and Paiakamangaoatua Blocks, in the Auckland Land District.

NOTICE is hereby given, by direction of His Excellency the Administrator of the Government of the Colony of New Zealand, under the authority of section 92 of “The Public Works Act, 1894,” that the roads described in the Schedule hereto were, on the 9th October, 1895, duly taken and laid off through the land specified in the said Schedule, under the authority of the Governor of the said colony, by a warrant dated the 7th January, 1894.
