Dea ths occuring at hopsitals, of persons not residents of theborough where the hospital is sitnated, have been allotted in each case to theborough where the disease was contracted, and not to that in which the death actnally took place.

The total births in the aboveboroughs amonnted to 357, against 396 in April, a deerease of 39. The dea ths in May were 176, an increase of 1 on the number in April. Of the total dea ths, m ales con tributed 103, fem ales 73. Forty - eight of the dea ths were of children under 5 years of age, being 27 27 per cent. of the whole number; 42 of these were under 1 year of age. There were 39 dea ths of persons of 65 years and npwards: eight men, 65, 73 (tmo), 76 (tmo), 80, 82, 97, and six women, 73, 75, 78 (thre), 91, died at Aucklnd; six men, 67, 70, 71, 75, 77, 89, and two women, 73, 84, at Wellington; five men, 67, 69, 71, 75, 76, and three women, 66, 77, 79, at Christchurcb; and seven men, 66 (tmo), 69, 77, 79, 82, 90, and two women, 77, 83, at Dnndin.
