EGMONT ROAD BOARD.
Notice is hereby given that the following special order was confirmed on the 26th May, 1897:—
“That a special rate of ¾d. in the pound, for a period of twenty-six years, be now struck, made, and levied on the rateable value of all lands (Crown and Native lands excepted) in the Egmont, Pitt, and a portion of the Dorset Roads Special Rating District, being part of the Egmont Road District as described in the Schedule hereto, for the purpose of paying the interest and other charges on a loan of £500 to form and metal the unmetalled portions of the Egmont Road.
“Schedule.—All the lands that lie within the following boundaries, that is to say: Bounded towards the north by the southern boundary of the Devon Road; thence by the southern boundary of the Devon Road to the north-west corner of Section 4, Hua District; thence by the western boundaries of Sections 4 and 6 to the north corner of Section 46; thence along the north-western boundary of the said Section 46 to its western corner; thence in a south-easterly direction by the western boundaries of Sections 46, 48, 49, 51, 53, 55, 56, 60, 61, 64, 65, 67, 69, 76, 77, 78, 79, 80, 81, and 82, to the Mangaoraka Stream; thence by the said stream to the southern boundary of Section 45, Hua and Waiwakaiho Hundred; thence by the north boundary of Section 46, the Egmont Road, to the northern boundary of Section 47; thence by the said northern boundary of said Section 47, the Araheke Stream, and the north-western boundary of Section 48, to the Waiwakaiho Stream, and thence by the said stream to the Araheke Stream, by the said stream to the south-eastern boundary of Section 159; thence by the western boundary of Section 160, bounded towards the north by a swamp, towards the west by Section 135, to the south-east corner of Section 137; thence by the southern boundary of said Section 137 to the eastern boundary of Section 160; thence by the eastern boundaries of Sections 160, 31, and 32 to the Mangonaha Stream; thence by the said stream to the Mangaone Stream; thence by the said stream to the southern boundary of Devon Road, the starting-point.
“Such rate to be an annual-recurring rate for twenty-six years, and payable in two equal instalments on the 1st days of November and May in each year.”
I hereby certify that the above special order was duly made in accordance with “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the City of Wellington, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886.”

In the matter of “The Wellington City Sanitation Loan Empowering Act, 1892,” and of “The Wellington City Sanitation Loan Act, 1897,” and of Part IX. of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886.”
To the Hon. the Colonial Secretary, Wellington.
I, FRANCIS HENRY DILLON BELL, Mayor of the City of Wellington, in the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby, pursuant to the provisions of “The Wellington City Sanitation Loan Act, 1897,” and section 184 of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886,” give you notice that, on the 19th day of May, 1897, a poll was taken, under the provisions of the said Acts, on a proposal of the Council of the said city to borrow by way of special loan, under the provisions of the said Acts, the sum of £33,000 mentioned in “The Wellington City Sanitation Loan Act, 1897,” a copy of which proposal is next hereinafter set out:—

The Council of the City of Wellington give notice that the Council propose, pursuant to “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886,” “The Wellington City Sanitation Loan Empowering Act, 1892,” and “The Wellington City Suburbs Sanitation Act, 1893,” and “The Wellington City Sanitation Loan Act, 1897,” to borrow the sum of £33,000 by way of special loan, to be appropriated to completing the system undertaken and partly carried out by the said Council for the drainage of the City of Wellington and of the portions of the Boroughs of Melrose and Karori deemed by virtue of “The Wellington City Suburbs Sanitation Act, 1893,” to be included within the boundaries of the said city for drainage purposes, and to be also appropriated to any of the purposes to which the sum of £150,000 raised under “The Wellington City Sanitation Loan Empowering Act, 1892,” was authorised to be appropriated by that Act and Part I. of “The Wellington City Suburbs Sanitation Act, 1893” (in like manner as if the said sum of £33,000 were part of the said sum of £150,000).
And that the Council further propose to pledge, as security for such loan of £33,000, a special rate of 1d. in the pound, to be levied upon the annual values of all rateable property in the City of Wellington and in the districts defined in the First Schedule to “The Wellington City Suburbs Sanitation Act, 1893.”
Dated this 15th day of April, 1897.

And I also give you notice that the numbers of votes recorded, upon the taking of the said poll, for and against the said proposal were as follow: For the proposal, 1,318 votes; against the proposal, 216 votes: majority for the proposal, 1,102 votes. And, it being provided by the first two above-mentioned Acts that the said proposal was to be deemed carried or rejected upon a majority of the votes given on the taking of the said poll, I hereby further give you notice that the said proposal of the Council of the City of Wellington was duly carried upon the taking of such poll.

I, Francis Henry Dillon Bell, of Featherston Street, in the City of Wellington, in the Colony of New Zealand, Mayor of the said city, do solemnly and sincerely declare as follows:—

That all the proceedings which, by the joint operation of the above-named Acts, were required to be taken in or towards obtaining the sanction of the citizens of the said City of Wellington to a proposal of the Council of the said city to raise by way of special loan, under the provisions of the said Acts, the sum of £33,000 mentioned in “The Wellington City Sanitation Loan Act, 1897,” which proposal is set out in the voting-paper hereunto annexed and marked with the letter A, have been duly taken.

That, upon a poll of the said citizens taken on the said proposal on the 19th day of May, 1897, the said proposal was duly carried within the meaning of the above-mentioned Acts (read together).
And I make this solemn declaration conscientiously believing the same to be true, and by virtue of the provisions of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled “The Justices of the Peace Act, 1882.”
