BOROUGH OF PALMERSTON NORTH.

RESULT of poll of ratepayers of the Borough of Palmerston North taken on Tuesday, the 9th February, 1897, upon the proposal to raise a loan of £2,000, under “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” for the purpose of erecting municipal buildings :—

Number of ratepayers on roll, 924, representing 1,075 votes: Number of votes recorded for the proposal, 291; number of votes recorded against the proposal, 17.

I therefore declare the proposal not carried.

OTARAIА ROAD DISTRICT.

THE following special order was passed at a special meeting of the Otaraiа Road Board, of the Otaraiа Road District, Otago, New Zealand, held on the 10th day of February, 1897, viz. :—

“That there be forthwith raised a special loan of £1,800 to pay off a loan previously raised, and secured upon a special rate, and now matured, and that debentures for seven years, and bearing interest at 4½ per cent. per annum, be created ; and, further, that, for providing the interest and sinking fund upon the loan, a special rate be made and levied over the whole district, payable annually on the 1st September, and which rate shall at least amount to £117 for the year, and shall be at the rate of ½d. in the pound, and may be increased or diminished.”

I certify that the special order of which the foregoing is a true copy has been duly passed in terms of the statute thereanent.

Special Order made by the Waitotara-Momohaki Road Board, County of Patea.

THE following special order, made by the Waitotara-Momohaki Road Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

SPECIAL ORDER.

THAT a special rating district, the boundaries of which are defined below, be now formed ; and that a special rate of ½d. in the pound sterling be now made and levied upon the valuations of all the properties in such special rating district, such special rate to be for the term of one year, commencing 16th January, 1897, and ending 15th January, 1898, and to be payable in one instalment on the 1st day of February, 1897.

That the proceeds of such special rate, after paying cost of collection, be used towards the cost of deviation of the Ngutueru Valley Road-line through Section 27, Block III., Wairoa Survey District (Laird’s Flat), the estimated cost of such deviation being £120.

That the boundaries of such special rating district shall be as follows : Commencing at the south-east corner of Section 27, Block III., Wairoa Survey District, and following the southern boundary of that section to where it joins the Richardson Ridge Road ; thence in a northerly direction by that road-line to the south boundary of Section 1, Block IV., Omahine Survey District ; thence by the southern boundary of that section to its south-east corner ; thence by the eastern boundaries of Sections 1, 8, 12, 10, and 11, Block IV., Omahine Survey District, to the provincial boundary-line ; thence by the provincial boundary-line to its junction with the confiscation boundary-line ; thence by the confiscation boundary-line to the eastern boundary of Section 31, Block XIII., Momohaki Survey District ; thence by the eastern boundaries of Sections 31, 27, and 28 to the University Reserve ; thence by the north and west boundaries of that reserve to the Puao road-line ; thence by the south boundaries of Sections 19 and 17, Block IV., Wairoa Survey District, to Trig. Station X ; thence by a straight line to the north-east corner of Section 27, Block III., Wairoa Survey District ; and thence by the eastern boundary of that section to the starting-point.

I hereby certify that the above special order has been duly made by the Waitotara-Momohaki Road Board as required by “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

Notice as to the Day for closing under “The Shops and Shop-assistants Act, 1894.”

WHEREAS the local authorities respectively mentioned in the first column of the Schedule hereto have duly notified to me that the days upon which the shops in their respective districts shall be closed, pursuant to the provisions of “The Shops and Shop-assistants Act, 1894,” are the days set opposite their respective names in the second column of the said Schedule : Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers in this behalf conferred upon me by the said Act, I, William Hall-Jones, acting for and on behalf of the Minister of Labour, do hereby appoint that the said respective days shall be the days upon which all shops within the said respective districts shall be closed.

Notice of Intention to take Private Land in the Parish of Hikurangi for a Tramway to be used in Connection with the Working of a Coal-mine.

WHEREAS the Hikurangi Collieries (Limited) has made application, under the provisions of the sixty-first section of “The Coal-mines Act, 1891,” to take the land described in the Schedule hereto for the purpose of constructing thereon a tramway to connect the said company’s coal-mine with the Whangarei-Kamo Railway Extension :

Now, therefore, notice is hereby given that the land described in the Schedule hereto is required to be taken, under the provisions of “The Public Works Act, 1894,” and “The Coal-mines Act, 1891,” for a tramway to be used in connection with the working of a coal-mine. And notice is hereby further given that a plan showing the area of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the Post-office, Hikurangi, and is there open for inspection ; and that all persons affected by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections thereto, set forth such objections in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Mines, Wellington.
