its destination will be treated and dealt with in
manner provided in regard to passengers' luggage
by section 17 of the by-laws of the company made
and issued on the 20th day of June, 1894.
(e.) No claim for compensation for damage or injury
alleged to have been done to any such bicycle,
tricycle, or velocipede during transit shall in any
case be available against the company unless
made in writing, specifying the nature of such
damage or injury, and delivered to some servant
of the company before its actual removal from
the station at which it was discharged; and the
onus of proof that such damage or injury was
occasioned through negligence on the part of the
company shall in all cases lie upon the person
making such claim.
2. The by-laws made by the company on the said 20th day
of June, 1894, are to be read with and incorporated with
this by-law so far as may be necessary for giving full effect
to any of the provisions thereof.
In witness whereof the seal of the company has been
hereunto affixed by order of the directors of the company on
the 3rd day of February, 1897.

PATENT OFFICE SUPPLEMENT.
A SPECIAL Supplement to the New Zealand Gazette is
now published fortnightly, containing all notices con-
cerning patents and trade-marks required by law to be
gazetted; also, particulars of lapsed applications for patents,
expired letters patent, and other information useful to in-
ventors, manufacturers, and others. The Supplement will
be issued free to subscribers to the Gazette, and to others on
payment of a subscription of ten shillings per annum, pay-
able in advance to the Government Printer.

BANKRUPTCY NOTICES.
THE public are informed that extracts from the New
Zealand Gazette, containing all Bankruptcy Notices
that appear in each issue, are published weekly, and will
be sent post-free to any address on payment of a subscription
of 10s. per annum. Single copies, 3d. each. Orders should
be addressed and subscriptions made payable to
JOHN MACKAY,
Government Printer.
THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.
SUBSCRIPTIONS.-The subscription is at the rate of 30s.
per annum, PAYABLE IN ADVANCE. A less period than
three months cannot be subscribed for.
Single copies of the Gazette, 6d. each.
Advertisements are charged at the rate of 6d. per line for
the first insertion and 3d. per line for the second and any
subsequent insertion.
Statements under the Mining Act are uniformly charged
23s.
All advertisements should be written on one side of the
paper, and signatures, &c., should be written in a legible
hand.
The number of insertions required must be written across
the face of the advertisement.
The New Zealand Gazette is published on Thursday even-
ing in each week, and notices for insertion must be received
by the Government Printer before three o'clock of the day
preceding publication.
Communications should be addressed to the Government
Printer, Wellington, to whom post-office money-orders
should be made payable. Cheques should be crossed "Pub-
lic a/c," and exchange added.
Postage- or duty-stamps cannot be received in payment
from any place at which postal notes or post-office orders are
issued.
Prepayment may be demanded in any case. In order to
prevent delay in publication a sufficient remittance should
accompany every advertisement. Any surplus will be
returned with receipted account.
