Appointment under “The Public Works Act, 1894.”—Notice No. 473.

HIS Excellency the Governor, in pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred by “The Public Works Act, 1894,” has been pleased to appoint

ALEXANDER IRONSIDE,

of Clyde, Inspector of Stock, to be the person to apply for and obtain on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen any license or other authority required to be held or exercised in respect of the water-races, water rights, and other privileges enumerated in the Schedule hereto under “The Mining Act, 1891,” or any amendment thereof, or any regulations made thereunder respectively; and also to exercise, on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen, all such rights, remedies, and authorities to execute such instruments or documents, and to perform all such conditions in respect of any such license or authority as aforesaid in the name and on behalf of of Her Majesty the Queen as she might have or exercise or could be called upon to perform if she were a private person holding such exercise or authority.

SCHEDULE.

A WATER-RACE, with a right to divert four heads of water, commencing at or near the Vincent County race at the gorge of the Waikerikeri Creek, and terminating at the proposed experimental fruit station, Sections 72 and 77, Block I., Leaning Rock District.

he having a total efficient commissioned service counting towards the Decoration to the 31st December, 1896, of 26 years 130 days.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Pohangina County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886.”

COUNTY OF POHANGINA.—THE GORGE SPECIAL RATING DISTRICT.

THE following is the result of a poll taken on Monday, the 18th January, 1897, on a proposal of the Pohangina County Council to raise the sum of £1,000 by way of loan, under the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” for the purpose of constructing the Gorge Road; and to levy a special rate on the value of the several properties within the above special rating district:—

Number of ratepayers on special roll, 5; number of votes exercisable, 6: Number of ratepayers who voted for the proposal, 4; number of votes recorded for the proposal, 4; number of votes recorded against the proposal, nil.

A majority of the ratepayers, exercising more than one-half of the total number of votes exercisable, having voted for the proposal, I therefore declare it to be carried.
