less.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this twenty-first
day of December, 1896.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
IN exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities
vested in him by “The Education Act, 1877,” the
Governor, with the advice and consent of the Executive
Council of the colony, doth make the regulation hereto
annexed approving of class-books for public schools; and,
with the like advice and consent, doth prescribe that this
Order shall come into force on the date of the first publica-
tion thereof in the New Zealand Gazette.
REGULATION.
THE “Fluent” Primers and Readers (W. and R. Chambers,
London) up to Standard VI., and the “Public Service” copy-
books (Whitcombe and Tombs, Wellington), may be used in
any public school as if they had been described and included
in the list of works set forth in the Order in Council prescrib-
ing class-books for public schools, dated the 26th May, 1892.

Government Life Insurance Regulation.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this twenty-first
day of December, 1896.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS by an Order in Council bearing date the
twenty-sixth day of August, one thousand eight
hundred and ninety-five, and made in exercise of the powers
conferred by “The Government Life Insurance Act, 1886,”
and “ The Government Insurance and Annuities Act, 1874 ”
(hereinafter termed “ the said Acts ”), a certain Rule No. 33
was substituted for a previous Rule No. 33, prescribed by an
Order in Council bearing date the thirtieth day of Septem-
ber, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-six: And
whereas it is expedient that the rule so substituted as afore-
said should be revoked, and other provision made in lieu
thereof, as hereinafter appears:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the
Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the
powers and authorities vested in him by the said Acts, and
of all other powers and authorities in this behalf enabling
him, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the
Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby revoke
the said Order in Council of the twenty-sixth day of August,
one thousand eight hundred and ninety-five, and the regu-
lation thereby made, and in lieu thereof doth hereby make
the following regulation, namely:—
RATES OF INTEREST.
- The interest chargeable in respect of any such loan
shall be in accordance with the following scale, and shall be
payable half-yearly at any post-office where business of the
department is conducted, or other office of the department
at which the premiums on the policy may for the time being
be payable.

And in exercise and pursuance of the powers and authori-
ties aforesaid, and by and with the like advice and consent
as aforesaid, his said Excellency doth hereby order that
this present Order in Council shall take effect on the first
day of January, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-
seven.

Land temporarily reserved in the Land Districts of Taranaki, Wellington, Nelson, and Otago.
GLASGOW, Governor.
WHEREAS by the two hundred and thirty-fifth sec-
tion of “ The Land Act, 1892,” it is enacted that the
Governor may from time to time, either by general or par-
ticular description, and whether the same has been surveyed
or not, reserve from sale temporarily, notwithstanding that
the same may be then held under pastoral license, any
Crown lands which in his opinion are required for any of
the purposes in the said section mentioned:
Now, therefore, I, David, Earl of Glasgow, the Governor
of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of
the powers and authorities vested in me by the said Act, do
hereby temporarily reserve from sale the lands in the Land
Districts of Taranaki, Wellington, Nelson, and Otago de-
scribed in the Schedule hereunder written, for the purposes
in the said Schedule specified at the end of the description
of the lands so intended to be temporarily reserved.
SCHEDULE.
TARANAKI.
ALL that piece or parcel of land in the Taranaki Land Dis-
trict, containing 1 rood 1 perch, more or less, being Town
Section No. 1119 on the plan of the Town of New Plymouth.
Bounded towards the north by Fillis Street, 126 links;
towards the east by Town Section No. 1120, 205 links;
towards the south by Reserve L, 126 links; and towards
the west by Town Section No. 1118, 205 links. For a hos-
pital reserve.
WELLINGTON.
All that parcel of land in the Wellington Land District,
containing by admeasurement 5 acres 2 roods 27 perches,
more or less, being Section No. 15, Township of Birmingham.
Bounded towards the north-east by Flyger Street; towards
the east by Reserve No. 81; towards the south by Birming-
ham Road; and towards the west by Sections Nos. 10, 11, 12,
and 14: as the same is delineated on the plan deposited in
the District Lands and Survey Office, Wellington. For
municipal purposes.
All that parcel of land in the Wellington Land District,
containing by admeasurement 2 roods, more or less, being
Sections Nos. 19 and 21, Town of Mangaweka. Bounded
towards the north by Kawakawa Street; towards the east
by the Main Trunk Road; towards the south by Section
No. 17; and towards the west by Section No. 113: as the
same is delineated on the plan deposited in the District
Lands and Survey Office, Wellington. For a site for public
buildings of the General Government.
All that parcel of land in the Wellington Land District,
containing by admeasurement 1 acre and 30 perches, more or
less, being Section No. 290a, Township of Raetihi. Bounded
towards the north by the Pipiriki–Ohakune Road and Section
No. 288; towards the east by the 1-chain reserve along the
Makotuku River; towards the south by Section No. 290;
and towards the west by the Makotuku Valley Road and
Section No. 288: as the same is delineated on the plan de-
posited in the District Lands and Survey Office, Wellington.
For a site for police-station.
All that parcel of land in the Wellington Land District,
containing by admeasurement 1 acre, more or less, being
Section No. 41, Block XII., Apiti Survey District. Bounded
towards the north by Section No. 30; towards the east by
Section No. 30; towards the south by the Apiti–Norsewood
Road; and towards the west by the Apiti–Norsewood Road:
as the same is delineated on the plan deposited in the Dis-
trict Lands and Survey Office, Wellington. For a gravel
reserve.
NELSON.
All that parcel of land in the Nelson Land District, con-
taining by admeasurement 50 acres and 14 perches, more or
less, being Sections Nos. 1 and 4 of Section No. 113, Takaka,
Waitapu Survey District. Bounded towards the north-east
by Section No. 3 of 113 and Section No. 2 of 113, 1137 links
and 1101 links respectively; towards the south-east by a
public road, 2390 links; towards the south-west by a public
road and by Section No. 5 of 113, 1210 links; and towards
the north-west by Section No. 5 of 113 and Section No. 107,
349 links and 2031 links respectively: as the same is de-
lineated on the plan deposited in the District Lands and
