- The remaining subrubs do not lie withinborough boundarles, and particulars repecting them have not been obtained for the Vital Statisties.
Deaths occuring at hopitals, of persons not residents of theborough where the hospital is situatod, have been allotted in each case to theborough where the disease was contracted, and not to that in which the death actually took place.
The total births in the aboveboroughs amountod to 372, against 404 in September, a decreaso of 32. The doatho in October were 168, an increase of 13 on the number in September. Of the total doatho, malos contibuted 81, femalos 87. Thity-soven of the doatho were of children under 5 years of age, being 22·02 per cent. of the whole number; 31 of these were under 1 year of age. There were 44 doatho of persons of 65 years and upward: seven men, 66, 72, 75 (tvo), 76, 79, 83, and six women, 66 (tvo), 70, 74, 77, died at Auckland; four men, 66, 67, 68, 77, and three women, 71, 72, 81, at Wellington; three men, 65, 68, 86, and six women, 63, 69, 70, 76, 80, 82, at Christchurch; and nine men, 65 (tvo), 68 (tvo), 71, 72, 74, 86, 88, and six women, 66, 67, 75 (tvo), 78, 90, at Duncdln.
The following Table shows the Causes of the Deaths of Persons of both Sexes under 5 Yean of Age and 5 Yean and'upwards, and the Proportions per Cent. of Deaths from each Cauae, in the Boroughs above given, registered during the Moath of October, 1896.
