northern boundary line of that township; thence easterly along the northern boundary-line of the said Township of Kilbirnie, and that line produced across the Evans Bay Road to Evans Bay; thence northerly along the shore of Evans Bay to Point Jerningham; thence south-westerly and northerly along the shore of Lambton Harbour to the eastern boundary of the land granted to the Corporation of the City of Wellington on the 24th June, 1874; thence along the said eastern boundary and along the seaward boundary of the said land to the eastern boundary of the land granted to the Superintendent of Wellington on the 18th October, 1855; and thence along the seaward boundary of the last-mentioned land, and the seaward boundary of the reclaimed land to the commencing point.

SUBURBS OF WELLINGTON.

This district is bounded towards the north-east and north generally by the Otaki Electoral District, hereinbefore described, from the northernmost corner of Section No. 110, Block I., Port Nicholson Survey District, to a point on Port Nicholson near the south-eastern corner of the Borough of Petone; thence towards the south-east by Port Nicholson to the City of Wellington Electoral District, hereinbefore described; thence towards the east generally, and again towards the north by the said City of Wellington Electoral District to Evans Bay; thence towards the west by Evans Bay to Point Halswell; thence again towards the east by the water of Port Nicholson to Palmer Head, and thence again towards the south and west by the ocean to the northernmost corner of Section No. 110 aforesaid; including Somes Island.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable David, Earl of Glasgow; Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George; Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this twenty-fourth day of September, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety-six.

New Electoral Districts for the Middle Island.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS the Middle Island Representation Commission, appointed under the provisions of “The Representation Act Amendment Act, 1896,” have made their report to me under their hands and seals, setting forth the names and boundaries of the electoral districts for the Middle Island (including Stewart Island), fixed by them in accordance with “The Representation Act, 1887,” and the Acts amending the same:

Now, therefore, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority vested in me by the fifth section of “The Representation Act, 1887,” I, David, Earl of Glasgow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby proclaim the names and boundaries of the electoral districts for the Middle Island (including Stewart Island), so fixed by the said Commission, to be those respectively mentioned and set out in the Schedule hereto.


SCHEDULE.

CITY OF NELSON.

This district is bounded towards the north-east by a right line proceeding from the lighthouse on the Boulder Bank in the direction of the south-western corner of Section No. 1, Suburban North, as far as low-water mark of Tasman Bay; thence towards the north-west generally by Tasman Bay and the French Pass to Pa Harakeke Point; thence towards the south-east generally by Admiralty Bay to a point in Hamilton’s Bay due east of the easternmost corner of Section No. 20, Block VIII., French Pass Survey District; thence by a right line to the said easternmost corner; thence by the road which forms the south-eastern boundaries of Sections Nos. 20 and 21, Block VIII. aforesaid, and the north-western side of that road produced to Burnside’s Bay; thence by Hallam Cove, Fitzroy Bay, Tennyson Inlet, Tawhitinui Reach, Popoure Reach, Hikapu Reach, and Mahau Sound, to a point in line with the south-western boundary-line of Section No. 219, Town District of Havelock; thence towards the south-west by a right line to the southernmost corner of that section; thence towards the south-west generally by the south-western boundary-line of the said Section No. 219; by the western boundary-line of that section, the north-western boundary-lines of Sections Nos. 218 and 217, the western boundary-lines of Sections Nos. 216, 215, 214, 213, 212, 211, 210, 209, 208, 207, 206, 205, 204, 203, and 64, to Kavanagh Street, Havelock; thence by Section No. 145, Havelock suburban section, to its southernmost corner; thence by a right line to the easternmost corner of Section No. 87, Block XI., Wakamarina Survey District; thence by that section and Section No. 15, and the north-eastern boundary-line of the said section produced to the south bank of a channel of the Pelorus River, at the northern boundary of that section; thence towards the south by the south bank of the said channel of the Pelorus River to its confluence with the Wakamarina River; thence again towards the south-east by the west bank of the said Wakamarina River to its source; thence by a line due south to the summit of the watershed between the Pelorus and Wairau Valleys; thence by the summit of that watershed to the boundary-line between the Land Districts of Nelson and Marlborough; thence again towards the south-west and north-west by the boundary-line between the Land Districts of Nelson and Marlborough to the southern boundary-line of Square 18; thence again towards the south by a line running due west until it is intersected by a right line bearing S. 45° W. from a point about two miles distant from the north-eastern corner of Section No. xviii., Suburban North, and in line with the north-eastern boundary-line of the said Section No. xviii.; thence again towards the south-east by a right line bearing S. 45° W., until it intersects the River Lee; thence towards the south-west generally by the said River Lee to its confluence with the River Roding; thence by the latter river to its confluence with the River Wairoa, and thence by the last-mentioned river to the Nelson-Belgrove Railway-line; thence by the said railway-line to the southernmost corner of Section No. 40, Waimea Survey District; thence by the south-western boundary-line of the said Section No. 40 and that line produced across the Wai-iti River to Section No. 1 of 161; thence by the southern and western boundary-lines of Section 1 of 161 of the said Waimea Survey District by the south-western boundary-lines of Sections Nos. part of 161 and 165, and the north-western boundary-line of the said Section No. 165, and part of the north-western boundary-line of Section No. part of 162 to the southern corner of Section No. 16, Waimea Survey District; thence by the south-western and north-western boundaries of the said Section No. 16 and the south-eastern and north-eastern boundaries of Section No. 17 to the westernmost corner of Section No. 12, Waimea Survey District; thence by the north-western boundary-line of the said Section No. 12 to the road which forms the northern boundary of that section; thence by that road and its continuation, passing Sections Nos. 13, 14, 26, 19, 206, 182, and 4, Wai-iti Survey District, to the westernmost corner of Section No. 186, Eve’s Valley, of the said Wai-iti Survey District; thence by the north-western boundary of the said Section No. 186 to Section No. 37, Wai-iti Survey District; thence by Sections Nos. 1, 188, 7, and 27, to the southernmost corner of Section No. 126, Wai-iti Survey District; thence by the south-western boundary-line of Sections Nos. 126 and 127 to the westernmost corner of the last-mentioned section; thence by Sections Nos. 29, 19, 3, 4, 11, 157, 13, 16, 14, 151, and 15, all of Wai-iti Survey District; thence towards the west generally by Sections Nos. 13, 11, 111, 10, 6, 5, and 4, Block XIV., Motueka Survey District, and by Section No. 1, Block XV., Motueka Survey District; thence towards the north generally by Sections Nos. 21 and 73, Block XI., Motueka Survey District, and by Sections Nos. 74, 138, 141, 143, 145, 84, 82, and 81, Block XV., Motueka Survey District, and by Sections Nos. 80, 115, 1, 158, 159, 26A, 27, and 31A, Block XVI., Motueka Survey District, to the south-eastern corner of the last-mentioned section; thence by Sections Nos. 29 and 28, 1 and 2, Moutere Survey District, to the southernmost point of the last-mentioned section; thence by a right line to the western extremity of Rabbit Island; and thence again towards the north and the north-west by Tasman Bay and the seaward boundary of the Boulder Bank to a point in line with a right line drawn from the lighthouse on the Boulder Bank in the direction of the south-western corner of Section No. 1, Suburban North; and thence again towards the north-east by a right line to the said lighthouse: including Rabbit Island, Saxton’s Island, Oyster Island, Pepin Island, and Fifeshire Island.

MOTUEKA.

This district is bounded towards the north-west and north by the ocean from the Ngakawhau River to the Cape Farewell Lighthouse; thence towards the east generally by Golden Bay and Tasman Bay to the City of Nelson Electoral District, hereinbefore described, at Rabbit Island; thence towards the south generally and towards the north-east by the said City of Nelson Electoral District to the summit of the watershed between the Wairau and Pelorus
