IT is hereby notified that, in pursuance and exercise of
the power and authority conferred by section 9 of "The
Fisheries Conservation Act, 1884,"

HENRY HUMPHREY JACKSON the younger

has been appointed an officer for the purposes of that Act
within the Counties of Hutt, Horowhenua, Wairarapa North,
Wairarapa South, Pahiatua, Orua, Manawatu, Kiwitea, and
Pohangina, and within all the town districts and boroughs
situated within the said counties.

trict, appointed.

the 16th January, 1889, and published in New Zealand
Gazette No. 3, of the 17th January, 1889, page 41, being dis-
solved as from the 3rd August, 1896.

the year 1895-96 is published for general information.

THE ROYAL HUMANE SOCIETY OF AUSTRALASIA.—LIST OF
AWARDS FOR THE COLONY OF NEW ZEALAND, 1895 AND
1896.

Case 1442.—WALTER JOHNSON, of Deeds Office, Napier,
New Zealand, a clerk, aged thirty-eight years, who rescued a
child named Cornelius McCarthy, of the Spit, Napier,
Hawke's Bay, New Zealand, from drowning off the breast-
work at the Spit, Napier, on the 8th June, 1895. Mr. John-
son, who was just recovering from a severe attack of influ-
enza, saw the child in the breakers, and, without waiting to
divest himself of any of his clothes, plunged in and swam
out a distance of 80 yards, and brought the child safely
ashore with much difficulty and injury to his health.
Bronze medal.

Case 1452.—JOHN McLELLAN, of the Union Steam Ship
Company's steamer "Corinna," a seaman, aged thirty-five
years, who rescued Albert Henry Carnell, of Coote Road,
Napier, New Zealand, photographer, aged twenty-seven
years, from drowning in the roadstead of Port Ahuriri,
Napier, New Zealand, on the 29th September, 1894. Mr.
McLellan, hearing a commotion on deck, went up, and, see-
ing Carnell 30 yards astern, jumped overboard, and kept him
afloat until assistance arrived. Certificate of merit.

Case 1454.—CLARENCE HEALY, of Granity Creek, New
Zealand, aged twenty years, a butcher, who rescued William
Brandon, of Granity Creek, New Zealand, aged forty-nine
years, a miner, from drowning on the 17th February, 1895.
A boat, in which were seven persons, capsized, and the occu-
pants were thrown into the surf, one man being drowned.
Healy mounted his horse and plunged into the surf, and
succeeded in rescuing William Brandon. The others swam
ashore. Bronze medal.

Case 1472-73.—DUNCAN McARTHUR, aged years,
and ANTONIO BOBBICH, aged years, of Wanganui,
New Zealand, sailors, who rescued Richard Climo and Alex-
ander McFarlane, fishermen, from drowning on the 21st
April, 1895. McArthur and Bobbich were returning to port
from a fishing cruise, when they were hailed by three men
in a boat which was swamped, and the occupants thrown
into the sea, from which they were rescued. Bronze medal
each.

Case 1478.—HAROLD VON DADELSZEN, of Wellington, New
Zealand, a student, aged seventeen years, who rescued Lillie
Brown, of the same place, aged twelve years, from drowning
at Island Bay on the 6th January, 1896. Dadelzen had
just rescued some boys who were being carried out to sea,
when he saw two girls being carried out to sea. He suc-
ceeded in rescuing Lillie Brown; the other one was drowned
(see case 1479). Bronze medal.

Case 1479.—PERCY JAMES KINNEBURGH, of Pirie Street,
Wellington, New Zealand, a salesman; aged seventeen years,
who attempted to rescue Olive Goldfinch, of the same place,
aged seventeen years, from drowning at Island Bay on the
6th January, 1896. Kinneburgh dived and rescued the
body, but she was past restoration. Certificate of merit.

Case 1484.—FREDERICK WILLIAM MARRIS, of Blenheim,
New Zealand, a bank clerk, aged twenty-three years, who
rescued William Owen Imrie, aged eight years, and Alfred
Imrie, aged two years, from drowning in the Omaka River,
at Blenheim, on the 30th November, 1895. Maris, seeing
the child sink, dived, and after some difficulty brought it to
the shore. Maris swam up the river, and, after diving
several times, found the elder boy, and got him ashore.
Certificate of merit.

Case 1502.—GEORGE HARGREAVES GOTHARD, of Westport,
New Zealand, an ironmonger, aged twenty-six years, who
rescued Martin Douglas Josephson, of the same place, aged
six years, from drowning at Westport, New Zealand, on the
10th November, 1895. Gothard jumped into the river, at
