NOTICE is hereby given that the poll of ratepayers taken on the 6th August, 1896, resulted as follows:
For public works within and in the neighbourhood of the Township of Eltham, £2,000.—Number of voters and votes on roll, 103: Number of voters and votes for proposal, 74; number of voters and votes against proposal, nil.
For forming and gravelling the Chapman, Poti, and the Anderson Roads, £3,000.—Number of voters on roll, 68; number of votes exercisable, 74: Number of voters for proposal, 55; number of votes for proposal, 58; number of votes against proposal, nil.
I therefore declare both the above-mentioned proposals to be carried.

Notice of Intention to take Land for a Road, Ormondville to Waikopiro, through Sections 120, 121, Block IX., and 114, Block X., Takapau.
NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of "The Public Works Act, 1894," to execute a certain public work, to wit, the construction of a road known as the Ormondville to Waikopiro Road, through
Sections 120, 121, Block IX., and 114, Block X., Takapau, and for the purposes of such public work the land described in the Schedule hereto is required to be taken; and notice is further given that the plan of the said road and of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the Post-office at Takapau, and is there open for inspection. And notice is hereby given that all persons affected by the execution of the said public work or by the taking of the said lands shall, if they have any well-grounded objections to the execution of the said public work or to the taking of such lands, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister for Public Works, Wellington.

(Hydrographic Notice No. 20.) THE following Hydrographic Notice is promulgated for general information and guidance:
- Roche de Var Shoal, Havannah Passage, New Caledonia. It has been decided to remove this shoal from Admiralty charts, and the necessary correction is to be made in any charts or sailing directions which show its existence. Charts affected: 936b, 1380, 2906. Sailing Directions—Pacific Islands, Vol. i., Part ii., page 93.

- Tasman Peninsula, Tasmania.
(a.) There is a shoal patch about 2 cables in extent, with least depth 13 fathoms (crl.) at low water, springs, with 17 to 19 fathoms close round, with S.W. extreme of Cape Raoul S. 82½° E., distance 4½ miles, and summit of Wedge Island N. 23½° W., 4·6 miles. Chart affected: 1079. Sailing Directions—Australian Directory, Vol. i., page 523. (b.) A rock, with 21ft. of water over it at low water, springs, and with 7 to 9 fathoms close round, lies with Mount Communication N. 5° W., 2·1 miles, and summit of Betsey Island N. 82° W., 7·7 miles. Charts affected: 960, 1079. Sailing Directions—Australian Directory, Vol. i., page 524. (c.) A rock, with 21ft. of water over it at low water, springs, and 9 to 10 fathoms close round it, lies with Mount Communication N. 50° E., 1·8 miles, and the summit of Wedge Island S. 39° E., 4·4 miles. Charts affected: 809, 960, 1079. Sailing Directions—Australian Directory, Vol. i., page 524. ("Dart," Note No. 1, 20th May, 1896; Office No. 835 5.)
