Proposed Alterations in Boundaries of Electoral Districts, North Island.

Wellington, 12th August, 1896.

THE Commissioners for the North Island appointed under "The Representation Act Amendment Act, 1896," and in accordance with the provisions of "The Representation Act, 1887," and the amendments thereof, hereby publish for general information, in terms of section 4 of the last-named Act, the following proposed alterations in the boundaries of electoral districts; and, further, give notice that written objections to the same will be received at the office of the North Island Commission, care of the Surveyor-General, Wellington, up to and including the 14th September, 1896.

Maps of the proposed districts will be furnished to each local body in the colony, and may also be seen at the Chief Surveyor's Offices at Auckland, New Plymouth, Napier, and Wellington.

NORTH ISLAND ELECTORAL DISTRICTS.

Bay of Islands comprises the Counties of Mongonui, Whangaroa, Hokianga, and Bay of Islands; together with the Aratapu and Dargaville Ridings of Hobson County.

Marsden comprises the whole of Whangarei County; the Ridings of Te Kopuru, Wairoa, and Okahu, of Hobson County; and the Ridings of Tokatoka, Paparoa, Matakohe, and Mareretu, of Otamatea County; together with the adjacent islands and Mokohinau Lighthouse. The southern boundary of this district is unaltered.

Waitemata comprises the whole of Rodney County; the Ridings of Kaiwaka, Wairau, and Whakapirau, of Otamatea County; and the Ridings of Mairetahi, Wainui, Kaukapaka, and Waitakerei, and Helensville Town District, all of Waitemata County; and that portion of Takapuna Riding of Waitemata County situated north of a road commencing near Taiaote on the east coast and running southwesterly, passing Sections 261, 262, 263, 265, 258, 259, Parish of Takapuna, and Sections 174 and 173, Paremoremo Parish; together with the Great and Little Barrier, Kawau, Tiritiri, Motuhora, and adjacent islands.

Eden comprises the Waikomiti, Birkenhead, and Northcote Ridings of Waitemata County, and that portion of Takapuna Riding of the same county not absorbed by the Waitemata District hereinbefore described; together with the Road Districts of Point Chevalier, Mount Albert, and Avondale, of Eden County; that portion of Arch Hill Road District of Eden County lying to the west of King Street; and that portion of the Mount Eden Road District lying to the west of Mount Roskill Road. This electorate includes also the Boroughs of Birkenhead and Devonport, Bean Rock, and the islands in Waitemata Harbour.

City of Auckland comprises the whole of the City of Auckland and the Borough of Newton; also that portion of the Arch Hill Road District of Eden County lying to the east of King Street.

Parnell comprises the Boroughs of Parnell and Newmarket; the Eden Terrace Road District of Eden County; the Auckland Domain; that portion of the Remuera Road District of Eden County lying north-west of the creek which flows into Hobson's Bay at Hay's Gardens; and those portions of Mount Eden and Epsom Road Districts lying within the present Parnell Electoral District between the Great South Road and Mount Roskill Road.

Manukau comprises the Tamaki West, Mount Wellington, Panmure Township, Mount Roskill, and One-tree Hill Road Districts of Eden County; the whole of the Remuera Road District of Eden County, excepting that portion lying north-west of the creek which flows into Hobson's Bay at Hay's Gardens; together with those parts of Epsom and Mount Eden Road Districts situated within the existing Manukau Electoral District between the Auckland-Onehunga Road and Mount Roskill Road; and that portion of the Howick Riding of Manukau County included in the Road Districts of Pakuranga, Howick Township, Paparoa, and East Tamaki. The Borough of Onehunga, and Islands of Motutapu, Motuihi, Rakino, Motuhoropapa, Rangitoto, and Brown's, are included in this electorate.

Franklin comprises the whole of Manukau County, excepting the Road Districts of Pakuranga, Howick Township, Paparoa, East Tamaki, Paparata, Pokeno, and Mercer, and excepting also the outlying district of Maungatawhiri, lying between Wharekawa Range and Firth of Thames. The Islands of Pahiki, Pohui, Rotoroa, Waiheke, and Puketatu are in this electorate.
