Alterations to the Scale of Fares, Rates, and Charges in Force
upon the New Zealand Government Railways.
IN pursuance of all powers and authorities enabling me
under "The Public Works Act, 1894," and any amend-
ment thereof, and also of "The Government Railways Act,
1894," I, Alfred Jerome Cadman, the Minister for Railways,
do hereby make the following alterations in the scale of
fares, rates, and charges in force on the New Zealand
Government railways open for traffic, such alterations to
come into force on and after the 9th day of March, 1896:—
PART II.—LUGGAGE, PARCELS, HORSES, ETC.
LIBRARY EXCHANGES.
Books forwarded for exchange to and from subscribers to
recognised circulating libraries only will be carried at one-
quarter parcels rates, with a minimum charge of 2d., under
the following conditions, viz.:—
(1.) The sender's name must be legibly inscribed on each
parcel.
(2.) Each parcel must be open at both ends.
(3.) Each parcel must be declared on the consignment-
note to contain books only.
PART IV.—GOODS: LOCAL RATES.
WHANGAREI SECTION.
The Railway Department may require owners to unload
timber from the railway-wagons at Opau. For unloading
done by the Railway at Opau the following charges will be
made, per 100 superficial feet:—

All logs unloaded at the skids shall be taken delivery of
by consignees in the harbour within the booms. Delivery
will be deemed to be complete when the logs are placed
within the booms.
NAPIER-TARANAKI SECTION.
Class P.
Goods of Class P (except coke, bonedust, guano, manure-
salt, rock-salt, salt for agricultural or pastoral purposes,
soot, and artificial manure) will be charged as Class N when
not otherwise specified.
WELLINGTON SECTION.
Class P.
Goods of Class P (except coke, bonedust, guano, manure-
salt, rock-salt, salt for agricultural or pastoral purposes,
soot, and artificial manure) will be charged as Class N
except otherwise specified.
HURUNUI-BLUFF SECTION.
Store Sheep for restocking Crown Lands.
The following rates will be charged for store sheep, for
restocking Crown lands which have been depleted by the
severity of the winter, and will remain in operation until
30th April, 1896, viz.:—
For distances of 65 miles and over: 20 per cent. less than
the classified rates; minimum, 10 trucks. The charge for
distances under 65 miles must not exceed the charge as for
65 miles.
For distances of 100 miles and over: For the first 100
miles, 40s. per truck for the first 13 trucks; and for each
additional truck, 24s. For each additional mile 2½d. per
truck per mile will be charged. The charge for distances
under 100 miles must not exceed the charge as for 100 miles.
A statutory declaration in the following form, signed by
the consignor, must be attached to the consignment-note:—
"I hereby certify that trucks of sheep, consigned
by me from Station to Station, on
are bonâ fide store sheep, not consigned for slaughter, and
that they are to replace sheep destroyed during the late
winter on Sheep-station, which is situated on Crown
lands."

EVERY officer holding advances of public money is
hereby required to pay to the Public Account, at
the nearest branch of the Bank of New Zealand, the un-
expended balance in his hand on or before Tuesday, the
31st March proximo, and forthwith to transmit to the
Treasury at Wellington the bank receipt for such repay-
ment, together with an account of his expenditure to the
same date, as required by clause 4 of the Treasury Regu-
lations.
As respects disbursements which officers may require to
make immediately after the close of the financial year,
requisitions for the amount required are to be made in
such time as to enable them to reach Wellington not later
than the 16th March, so that the requisite funds may be
placed at the disposal of the officer on the 1st April.
