POHANGINA COUNTY COUNCIL.
Following is the result of poll of ratepayers taken on the 10th day of February, 1896, on proposal to borrow £1,000 for construction of roads, bridges, and drains in the Pohangina Township, in the Pohangina Riding of the said Pohangina County:—
Ratepayers on roll, 43, representing 43 votes: Votes recorded for proposal, 24; number of ratepayers voting, 25; votes recorded against proposal, 1; ratepayers voting against proposal, 1.
As a majority in number of the ratepayers voted in favour of the proposal, and the number so voting are entitled to more than one-half of the votes that can be exercised by the whole number of ratepayers, I hereby declare the proposal to be carried.

MAURICEVILLE ROAD BOARD.
THE following is the result of a poll of ratepayers taken at the house of W. Gray, Dreyer’s Rock Road, Mauriceville, on the 15th February, 1896, in connection with a proposal to raise a loan of £230 under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” to form Baker Road from the junction with Mangamahoe Road to the north-west corner of Section 26, Block XV., Mangaone:—
Number of ratepayers on special roll, 3, representing 3 votes: Number of ratepayers voting in favour of the proposal, 3, representing 3 votes.
As all the ratepayers recorded their votes in favour of the proposal, I hereby declare the proposal carried.

THE following special order, made by the Manganui Road Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

MANGANUI ROAD BOARD.
Notice is hereby given that the following special order was made on Saturday, 18th January, 1896, and confirmed on Monday, 17th February, 1896:—
“ That, to secure the repayment of a loan of £320 raised under ‘The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,’ for the purpose of forming and grading the Cross Road from the Salisbury Road eastward, to give access to Section 4, Block XIV., Huiroa, and of graveling the Cross Road from the Salisbury Road to the east end of the cutting opposite Section 47, a distance of about 60 chains; to pay out of such loan the cost of raising it; to strike, as security on this loan, a special rate of 2½d. in the pound over the following lands —namely, Sections 4, 45, 46, and 47 of Block XIV., Huiroa Survey District: such rate to be an annually-recurring rate for twenty-six years, and shall be payable in two half-yearly instalments on the 1st January and the 1st July in each year.”
I hereby certify that the above special order was duly made in accordance with “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

THE following special order, made by the Turanga Road Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

SPECIAL ORDER made by the Turanga Road Board, striking a Special Rate.
In pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in them in that behalf, the Turanga Road Board hereby resolve as follows:—
“ That, for the purpose of providing the interest and other charges on a loan of £600 for metalling main roads, authorised to be raised by the said Board under the provisions of ‘The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,’ the Board do hereby make and levy a special rate of ½d. in the pound upon the rateable value of all the property within the Turanga Road District. That such rate shall be an annual-recurring rate for a period of twenty-six years, and shall be payable in two equal instalments at the office of the said Board on the 1st day of March and 1st day of September of each and every year during the currency of the loan.”
Passed by the Board on the 13th day of January, 1896.
Confirmed by the Board on the 18th day of February, 1896.

The following hydrographic information is promulgated for general information and guidance:—
Ellice Islands.—Entrance to Funafuti.
A stone beacon, bee-hive shape, and 20ft. high, has been erected on the south end of Funamanu Islet, which is the third islet south-west of Funafuti.
The passage (called Buabua) to the westward of this beacon is said to carry 4½ fathoms, least water, and is by far the most convenient.

Notice of the Laying-off of a Road over Lands in the Wellington Land District.
NOTICE is hereby given, by direction of His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, under the authority of “The Native Land Court Act, 1873,” that the road described in the Schedule hereto was, in September, 1890, duly taken and laid off through the lands specified in the said Schedule, under the authority of the Governor of the said colony, by a warrant dated the 14th July, 1886.
