On completion of the tests the committee shall furnish a
report to the Minister on all the machines or processes which
they have exanined or tested, and shall state, —
(1.) The machine or process which they consider on the
whole the most efficient and economic.
(2.) Whether they consider that any machine or process
tested so materially' rednces the cost of produc-
tian, or improves the product, as to be wortby of
the whole bonus or of a part only.
(3.) Whether, in the event of no one machine or process
being entitied to the whole bonus, they deen any
machine or process wortby of a part of the bonus,
and, if so, how much.

BONUS No. 2.

A bonus of £250 is offered for a process of utilising the
waste products of the bemp.
The first three conditions of Bonns No. 1 to apply to this
also.
The committee shall supply a sufficient and equal quantity
of the waste products to each process as a test.
On completion of the tests the committee shall report to
the Minister, and shall give the following particulars of each
process: (a.) The nature of the article made. (b.) The
quantity produced, and the cost of production. (c.) The
value of the product. (d.) Whether any of the processes are
of sufficient importance to warrant the Minister in giving
(1) the whole, or (2) any part, of the bonus; (3) if a part
only, how much.

BONUS for the DESTRUCTION of RABBIIS.—Notice No. 436.

Department of Agriculture (Lire-stock Brench),
Wellington, N.Z., 14th December, 1895.

A BONUS of £1,000 is offered for a practical scheme for
the destrnction of rabbite.
The following are the conditions:—

  1. All applications for the bonus must be sent addresed
    to the Bon. the Minister for Agriculture, Wellington, New
    Zealund, and must reach him not later than 31st May, 1896.
    Each application must be accompained by a full description
    of the means proposed to be adopied.
  2. The Government shall appoint a committee of three or
    more experts, to whom all applications shall be submitted.
    Such committee shall, after perusal, state what schmes
    they deen wortby of further conideration, and are satified
    may be used with absolute safety.
    On completion of the committee's prliminary investiga-
    tions each applicat will be notifed of the decision arrived
    at, and whether or not his individual scheme will be further
    inquired into.
    The committee may afierwards inspet the whole or any
    of the schmes at any place or places within the oolony, or
    may direct that the whole or any of them be submitted for
    trial at such time and place as they may think fit.

The following shall be a basis of the trial:—

  1. A suitable piece of rabbit-infeated land shall be allowed
    to each applicat (of whose scheme the committee have
    approved), and on which he will have full power to carry out
    a trial of his scheme for a period not exeeding two years.
  2. Each applicat on expiry of the period named shall
    submit a detailed and accurate statement of the actual
    cost incurred in testing his scheme.

On the expiry of the period named the committee shall as
soon as convenent therer after (should they deen it nece-
sary) make a personal inspetion of each applicat's allot-
ment, and shall take into conideration—

  1. The actual cost incurred by each applicat in test-
    ing his scheme for the period above mentioned.
  2. The result of the work done on each allotment.
    On completion of the tests the committee shall furnish a
    report to the Minister on all the schmes which they have
    exanined or tested, and shall state—
  3. The scheme which they consider on the whole the
    most practical, efficient, and economic; and if they consider
    such scheme wortby of the bonus.
  4. Whether, in the event of no one scheme being entitied
    to the whole bonus, they deen any one wortby of a part,
    and, if so, how much.
    The committee has power to withbold all awar's if they
    think none of the schmes submitted of sufficient impor-
    tance to merit a bonus.
    A sum not exeeding 6d. per are may be paid to each
    competitior whose scheme is accepted for test by the com-
    mittee, and who, in the opinion of the committee, has done
    work deservng of recogition.

BONUS for the MAnufacture of Potassivm Cyanide.

Wellington, 17th January, 1895.

N OTICE is herby given that a bonus of £1,000 will be
paid for the erection of a plant and the manufacure
in New Zealund of the first 200 tonn of crude cyanide of
potassium from colonial produce.

  1. The plant must be capable of prodncing at least 70
    tonn of crude cyanide of potassium anually.
  2. The crude cyanide of potassium so manufacured shall
    contain at least 70 per cent. of pottasium cyanide.
  3. The bonus will be paid in two equal instalmants, the
    first instalmant being payble on the production of the first
    100 tonn, and the second instalmant on the production of
    the second 100 tonn, of crude cyanide of potassium contain-
    ing the required percentage of pottasium cyanide.
  4. On the completion of the plant, notice in writing must
    be sent to the Minister of Industries and Commeroe, Well-
    ington, who will appoint an officer to inspet the same,
    together with the raw material then available from which
    the cyanide of potassium is proposed to be manufacured.
  5. The officer so apointed shall from time to time inspet
    the process of manufacure, in order that he may satify
    himself that the whole of the cyanide of potassium is being
    manufacured from material of New Zealund production;
    and before any bonus is paid such officer will be required
    to certify that he is satified the crude cyanide of potassium
    is the product of New Zealund material only, and that it
    contains the required percentage of pottasium cyanide.
  6. The bonus must be claimed for the first 100 tonn on or
    before the 31st March, 1897, and for the second 100 tonn on
    or before the 30th September, 1898. J. G. WARD.

BONUS for the PRODUC TION of Quicksilv er.

Wellington, 19th September, 1895.

N OTICE is herby given that a bonus of fourpence
(4d.) per poud will be paid on the production of the
first one hundred thousand pounds weight (100,0001b.) of
good marketable retorted quicksilver, free from all impuri-
tics, from any mine in New Zealund, on the following con-
ditions, that is to say:—

  1. That at least one-thid of the quantity is produced on
    or before the 31st March, 1897, and the remaining two-
    thirds on or before the 31st March, 1899.
  2. No bonus will be payble until the whole of the one
    hundred thousand pounds (100,0001b.) of quicksilver has
    been produced as stiplated to the satifaction of an officer
    to be apointed by the Minister of Mincs, and on whose
    certificate alone the bonus will be paid.
  3. In the event of more than one person produing the
    required quantitie of quicksilver before the dates named,
    inqury will be made by the officer above referred to, when,
    if it is found that each applicat is eqally entitied to a
    bonus, the amount will be divied in propotion to the
    quantitie produced by each applicat, but in no case shall
    any bonus be paid until at least one hundred thousand
    pounds (100,0001b.) of quicksilver has been produced in the
    aggragte.

Aiterations and Additions to the Seale of Fares and Chargs
in Force upon the New Zealund Government Railway.

I N aocordance with "The Government Railway Act, 1894, "
I, Aired Jerom Cadmin, the Minister for Railway,
do herby make the following alterations in and additions to
the scale of fers, rates, and chargs on the New Zealund
Government railways, to come into force on and after the
24th day of February, 1896:—

NAPIER—TARANAKI SEOTION.
Good huled between the Nupier Harbour Board's line at
Spit and the Railway-station, or private stores and sidings,
at Spil will be charged 1s. per ton; minimum charge per
truck, 2s.
Good, from or for Nupier and sttions south thereof,
huled between the Nupier Harbour Board's line at Spil
and the Spil Railway-station, will be charged as follows:—
Wod, 1d. per bale.
Timbcr, 1d. per 100 superficial feet.
Live-stock, 2s. per truck.
Other goods, 3d. per ton.
Minimun charge, 3d.
