Application to the Validation Court under “The Native Land (Validation of Titles) Act, 1893.”

IN THE VALIDATION COURT,
HELD AT GISBORNE.

In the matter of the Kourateuwhi No. 1 Block.

A. ANDREW REEVES, of Tolago Bay, sheep-farmer, applies for the validation of the interests purchased by him, as appears by the conveyance hereinafter mentioned, in all that parcel of land situate in the Gisborne Native Land Court District, containing by admeasurement 590 acres, more or less, being the land known as the Kourateuwhi No. 1 Block.

B. The applicant desires to appear before the Validation Court at Gisborne on Monday, the 18th day of November, 1895, at the hour of half-past 10 o’clock in the forenoon, or so soon thereafter as this application can be heard.

C. The nature of the transaction proposed for validation is a deed of conveyance, bearing date the 28th day of December, 1882, for the total consideration of £83, executed by the following Maori alienors—Karauria Pahura, Arapera Pahura, Rawiri Karaha, Ani Kirimana, Hori Mokoera, Hami Puha, Hori Kirimana, Hiria Ruihaunga, Taere Kirimana, Raiha Kakahupaea, Hataraka Rangi, Harata Makuru, Hohua Kawhea, Hera Keru, Pera Kapotaiaha, Haua Karini, and Tamati Hautapu—in favour of the applicant.

D. The interest in land which is intended to be alienated by the said conveyance is the fee-simple of the whole of the interests in the said block of the above-mentioned Maori alienors, and the title to the said block of the said alienors at the time of the said alienation was a certificate of title, dated the 18th day of July, 1881, issued in favour of ninety-four owners.

E. The applicant seeks to obtain through the aid of the Court an estate in fee-simple in the said land.

F. The applicant came to be invested with the title he now holds through the said deed of conveyance.

G. The address for service of the applicant is at the office of Messrs. Nolan and Skeet, solicitors, off Gladstone Road, Gisborne.

H. The applicant desires that copies of this application shall be served upon such of the aforesaid Maori alienors as are living, and upon the representatives of such of them as are deceased.

County of Patea, being portion of the Whareroa
Reserve, known as “Tiwhati,” and containing
by admeasurement 30 acres (more or less), being
the land comprised in confirmed lease No. 52,
to Joseph Copeland, and subsequently trans-
ferred to Mary Ann Grant, wife of James Grant,
of Hawera, farmer.

Whereas the above-named Mary Ann Grant
has given notice to me, under the provisions of
section 8 of “The West Coast Settlement Re-
serves Act, 1892,” that she desires to obtain
under that section a new lease of the land
above described; and I consider her application
ought to be given effect to: Now, therefore, I do
hereby appoint a meeting to take place between
the said Mary Ann Grant and all the Native
owners of the above-described land, for the pur-
pose of fixing the rent to be paid for the said
land for the first twenty-one years of the new
lease; and I fix Davidson’s Hall, Hawera, as the
place where, and Friday, the 8th day of No-
vember, 1895, at 11 o’clock in the forenoon, as the
time when, such meeting shall take place.

MEETING to be held at the COURTHOUSE,
PATEA, at 2 o’clock p.m. on MONDAY, the 11th
NOVEMBER, 1895, to fix the Rent for a NEW
LEASE to GEORGE VATER PEARCE of Subdivi-
sion 10 of Otoia Native Reserve, Block III.,
CARLYLE, containing 171 acres (more or less),
being Land comprised in Confirmed Lease
No. 8.

TO Tutange, Te Whetu Ramapiupiu, Ngahota
Ramapiupiu, Ngakirikiri Ramapiupiu, Ta-
mawhero, Hinemahu (trustee, Tutange Waio-
nui), Te Kaewa, Tuhia Rongimourihau, Ngahota,
Tupito, Tewhetu, Kopekope, and the other Native
owners of all that piece of land situate in the
Carlyle Survey District, being Subdivision 10 of
Otoia Native Reserve, Block III., and known as
“Whakapaiho,” and containing by admeasure-
ment 171 acres (more or less), being the land
comprised in confirmed lease No. 8 to George
Vater Pearce, Farmer, Kakaramea, Taranaki.

Whereas the above-named George Vater Pearce
have given notice to me, under the provisions of
section 8 of “The West Coast Settlement Re-
serves Act, 1892,” that he desires to obtain under
that section a new lease of the land above de-
scribed; and I consider his application ought
to be given effect to: Now, therefore, I do hereby
appoint a meeting to take place between the
said George Vater Pearce and all the Native
owners of the above-described land, for the
purpose of fixing the rent to be paid for the
said land for the first twenty-one years of the
new lease; and I fix the Courthouse, Patea, as
the place where, and Monday, the 11th day of
November, 1895, at 2 o’clock in the afternoon, as
the time when, such meeting shall take place.
