will be approached for the first mile and a half by a dray-road; thence by horse-road to Coal Creek, and via the Apiti-Norsewood Road for a further distance of eight miles and a half, after which surveyed roads for three miles will have to be used, the maximum distance of these being three miles. A temporary and nearer approach for the Tunipo Road sections will be by the Coal Creek and Hopopete Ravines for stock-driving, packing, &c. For the other sections the route from Apiti will be via the Main Cross Road E, dray-road made for three miles, and the remainder of the way by horse-road, for about seven miles further. The total distance from Apiti to the different sections will range from about six to thirteen and a half miles. Another access available would be down the Pohangina Valley to Ashurst. Taking the sections as a whole, they are hilly, with small portions of level land on each; the soil being fair to good, on a papa and sandstone formation; well watered and heavily timbered.

These lie in the Upper Pohangina and Coal Creek, and for sections on the north-west of the Pohangina River the access will be from Apiti, a distance of about eleven miles, via the Main Cross Road—a dray-road for three miles, then by horse-road for eight miles to Section No. 5, the furthest section being half a mile further on, and served by a surveyed road. Section No. 25, south of the Pohangina, will be approached from Ashurst, from which it is distant about twenty-two miles, nearly the whole distance being available for rough dray traffic by the Pohangina River and formed roads lower down. The land is hilly, with a small proportion of level; has a fair soil on a papa formation; all under heavy forest.

This section is approached from Rangiawahia, and is distant about nine miles from that township; the first two miles being by the Tiparapara dray-road, the next five miles by a horse-road, and the last two miles by a surveyed road only. The land is rather inferior in quality, although some 50 acres are fairly level, the soil being peaty on a papa formation, and covered with mixed forest.

The access to these sections will be from Apiti; the first two miles and a half being a dray-road; the next six miles is a horse-road, as far as Section 36; and the remaining three sections, from one mile and a quarter to four miles and a half, by surveyed road only. The total distance from Apiti varies from about seven to thirteen miles. These sections differ considerably in quality: Section 20 is nearly all level, with fair soil; Sections 34 and 36 have portions level, the balance being undulating, with fair soil; the other two sections are hilly and broken. The formation of the whole is papa, and the land is heavily timbered. Section 24 is weighted with £46 as valuation for improvements.
