(a.) REGIMENTAL DUTIES.

This examination will be vivâ voce, and by written questions
set by the Board.

Rank of Officer to be examined. Minor Headings. Books recommended, and Sources from which Information may be obtained.
Officers prior to first appointment as Lieutenant 1. Discipline.
General Instructions, Administration of Discipline, Boards and Committees of Inquiry, Disposal of Prisoners. New Zealand Defence Act and Volunteer Regulations, with latest published amendments.
2. Duties.
Roster of Duties: Duties in Garrison and Field, Honours and Salutes as Officers and Non-commissioned Officers, Guards and Sentries, Military Funerals.
3. Interior Economy.
Officers, Non-commissioned Officers.
Officers prior to appointment as Captain As for Lieutenants, with the addition of —
  1. Duties.
    Of Troop, Battery, or Company Officers in Garrison or Camp. | New Zealand Defence Act and Volunteer Regulations, with latest published amendments. |
    | | 2. Interior Economy.
    Of a Troop, Battery, or Company, System of keeping Books and Returns. | |

(b.) DRILL.

The examination in this subject will be divided into two
parts: one part will be practical in the field, with vivâ voce
questions, the other by written questions set by the Board.
The knowledge of each candidate in drills and exercises is to be
tested practically on parade, and, in addition to giving the
words of command, the candidate is to be required, in respect
of his own arm or branch of the service, to give the explanation
of the exercise or manœuvre about to be performed, to the men
on parade, in a clear and audible manner,

by day, and
The Board will state in detail in their report the manœuvres
and exercises performed, and will state clearly their opinion of
the candidate's proficiency—whether he is a good, bad, or indif-
ferent drill; whether he is able to impart instruction, and is
fully competent to command the body of troops he exercised.

CAVALRY AND MOUNTED INFANTRY.

Rank of Officer to be examined. Minor Headings. Books recommended, and Sources from which Information may be obtained.
Officers prior to appointment as Lieutenant 1. Drills.
Equitation, the Instruction of the Soldier on Foot, the Instruction of the Squad-ron or Company mounted. Mounted Infantry Regulations of the New Zealand Service.
2. Exercises.
The Carbine and Sword Exercises, Manual and Firing Exercises. The New Zealand Musketry Instructions and authorised Books of Instruction.
3. Musketry Instructions.
Instruction of the Recruit, Preliminary Drill and Practice, Dismounted Practice with Horses, Drill and Practice Returns.

Equitation, Drill of the Battery, mounted and dismounted. Laying: To lay a gun under the same conditions as laid down for competitors at skill-at-arms; five rounds, to average 35 seconds per round. Field Artillery Drill.
