Notice as to the Day for closing under "The Shops and Shop-assistants Act, 1894."
WHEREAS the local authorities respectively mentioned
in the first column of the Schedule hereto have
duly notified to me that the days upon which the shops in
their respective districts shall be closed, pursuant to the
provisions of "The Shops and Shop-assistants Act, 1894,"
are the days set opposite their respective names in the second
column of the said Schedule: Now, therefore, in exercise
of the powers in this behalf conferred upon me by the said
Act, I, William Pember Reeves, Minister of Labour, do
hereby appoint that the said respective days shall be the days
upon which all shops within the said respective districts shall
be closed.

HIS Excellency the Governor, by his Deputy, has been
pleased to accept the resignation by
DAVID COSSGROVE
of the commissions held by him as Adjutant on the Un-
attached Active List, New Zealand Volunteers, and as
Lieutenant Commanding the Westport Naval Artillery
Volunteers. Date of resignation, 3rd January, 1895.

Alterations and Additions to the Scale of Fares and Charges in Force upon the New Zealand Government Railways.
IN accordance with "The Government Railways Act, 1894,"
I, Richard John Seddon, acting for the Minister for
Railways, do hereby make the following alterations in and
additions to the scale of fares, rates, and charges on the New
Zealand Government Railways, to come into force on and
after the 11th day of February, 1895:—
PART I.—PASSENGERS: GENERAL FARES AND
REGULATIONS.
Official Season Tickets.
- Official season tickets, for use by Government officers
travelling on public service only, will be issued at half the
rate for ordinary season tickets. Application for these
tickets must be made to the General Manager.
PART II.—LUGGAGE, PARCELS, HORSES, ETC.
Parcel Rates.
Gunpowder, in packages not exceeding 14lb., will be charged
double parcel rates.
Horses and Carriages.
The clause stating that horses of members of Hunt or
Polo clubs travelling to meets and returning on or before
the third day will be carried the return journey for the
single charge is hereby cancelled.
PART V.—CLASSIFICATION OF GOODS.
Acid, sulphurous, packed, owners' risk .. Class A.

Notice of Intention to take Land for a School.
NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the
provisions of "The West Coast Settlements Act,
1892," and "The Public Works Act, 1894," to execute a
certain public work, to wit, the construction of a school,
on Subdivision No. 1 of Section 59, Block I., Hawera Survey
District, and for the purposes of such public work the land
described in the Schedule hereto is required to be taken;
and notice is further given that the plan of the land so
required to be taken is deposited in the Post-office at Nor-
manby, and is there open for inspection. And notice is
hereby given that all persons affected by the execution of
the said public work or by the taking of the said land shall,
if they have any well-grounded objections to the execution
of the said public work or to the taking of such land, set
forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within
forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the
Minister for Public Works, Wellington.
