THE following Notice to Mariners, received from the
Portmaster, Brisbane, Queensland, is published for
general information:—

P. A. BUCKLEY.

BAR OF THE BRISBANE RIVER.—NEW BUOY.

Notice is hereby given that a red conical buoy carrying a
triangular top-mark has been placed on the outer edge of
the bar of the Brisbane River, in a depth of 21ft. at low-
water springs.

The buoy lies one mile distant from the Pile Light, and
180ft. to the westward of the line of the bar leading lights.

Vessels approaching the bar should steer for the buoy,
and when near-to must haul up to bring the leading lights
in line, passing the buoy on the starboard hand at a distance
of 180ft.

The buoy lies with the following compass bearings, which
may assist vessels in determining compass errors: Mount
Tempest, N. 43° E.; Mount Gravatt (a high summit fifteen
miles distant, with tall trees partially cleared), S. 10° W.

beacon, painted red, on a rock on the east side of Whanga-
teau Harbour, Omaha Bay, which dries 2ft. at low water.
He has also erected two small wooden leading beacons,
painted white, half a mile inside the entrance. These
white beacons in line lead in about 100ft. to the west of
the iron beacon, and as soon as the iron beacon is passed
the white beacons must be opened to the east, to clear a
