Result of Poll for Proposed Loan, Taradale River Board, County of Hawke’s Bay.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Taradale River District, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886.”

TARADALE RIVER BOARD.

RESULT of a poll, taken on the 29th August, 1894, on the proposal to raise a loan of £600 for the purpose of strengthening and protecting the Taradale River Board’s bank at the Tutaekuri River, and to repay advances made for the same work; and to levy a special rate of 1¼d. in the pound on the whole of the rateable property in the Taradale River District as security for interest of the said loan:—

Number of ratepayers on roll, 212, representing 259 votes: Number of ratepayers voting in favour, 121, representing 160 votes; number of ratepayers voting against, 1, representing 1 vote.

The number of ratepayers voting in favour and the number of votes recorded in favour being in each case a majority of those on the roll, I declare the proposal carried.

NEW PLYMOUTH BOROUGH COUNCIL.

RESOLVED, That the Rating Act of 1876 shall be in force within the District of the Borough of New Plymouth, and that all assessments of rateable property within the same district of the borough aforesaid shall be made under the provisions of subsection (6) of section 2 of “The Rating Acts Amendment Act, 1893,” according to the rateable value of such property as defined in section 2 of “The Rating Act, 1876.”

I hereby certify that the above is a true copy of a resolution passed at a meeting of the Borough Council of New Plymouth on the 20th day of August, 1894.

WAITEMATA COUNTY COUNCIL.

RESOLVED, That, in terms of subsection (6) of section 2 of “The Rating Acts Amendment Act, 1893,” this Council resolves that “The Rating Act, 1882,” and the amendments thereof shall be in force in the County of Waitemata, and that all assessments of rateable property in the county shall be made under the said Acts.

I certify that the foregoing is a true copy of the resolution passed at a meeting of the Waitemata County Council on the 3rd day of August, 1894.

WAIPAWA COUNTY COUNCIL.

RESOLVED, That the Waipawa County Council hereby determines that “The Rating Act, 1882,” shall be the Act in force within the Waipawa County, in accordance with the provisions of subsection (6) of section 2 of “The Rating Acts Amendment Act, 1893.”

I, the undersigned, certify that the above is a copy of a resolution passed by a majority of the members of the Waipawa County Council at a general meeting held on the 10th August, 1894.

CLUTHA COUNTY COUNCIL.

RESOLVED, That, under authority conferred by subsection (6) of section 2 of “The Rating Acts Amendment Act, 1893,” this Council hereby determines that “The Rating Act, 1882,” and amendments thereof shall be in force within the Clutha County.

I hereby declare the above to be a true copy of a resolution passed at a meeting of the Clutha County Council on the 29th day of June, 1894.

EDEN TERRACE ROAD BOARD.

IN accordance with the provisions of subsection (6) of section 2, Part I., of “The Rating Acts Amendment Act, 1893,” it is resolved, That assessments of property made under the provisions of this section shall be made according to the rateable value of such property as the same is defined in section 2 of “The Rating Act, 1882.”

I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true copy of a resolution unanimously passed by the Eden Terrace Road Board on the 21st August, 1894.

I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true copy of a resolution passed by the Makara Road Board at a meeting held on the 1st day of September, 1894.

LIST OF AWARDS FOR THE COLONY OF NEW ZEALAND, 1893 AND 1894.

1234.—HERBERT OLDS, of Wanganui, New Zealand, aged fourteen years, who rescued Edwin Messiter, aged thirteen years, from drowning in the Wanganui River, on the 20th November, 1892. Olds, on seeing the boy in the water, jumped in, fully clothed, to his assistance, and reached him just as he was sinking. Certificate of merit.

1273.—JAMES AUGUSTUS ELLIOTT, of Merrylands, near Sydney, a warehouseman, aged twenty-five years, who risked his life in rescuing Alfred Redmond, of Hokianga, New Zealand, a gum-digger, aged forty years, from drowning in the Auckland Harbour, New Zealand, on the 12th September, 1893. Certificate of merit.

1274.—CECIL FRANCIS ADAMS, of Wellington, New Zealand, aged twenty years, for rescuing Percy Mater, aged thirty years, from drowning in the Wainuiomata River, on the 23rd September, 1893. Certificate of merit.

1276.—JAMES ALEXANDER BOOTH, of Whangaroa North, New Zealand, aged ten years, who rescued Edmund James Stewart, of the same place, aged six years, from drowning in the harbour at Whangaroa, on the 27th December, 1892. Bronze medal.
