Rural Lands in the Southland Land District open for Sale or Selection.

GLASGOW, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one hundred and thirty-sixth section of "The Land Act, 1892," I, David, Earl of Glasgow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the twenty-sixth day of September, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-four; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any lands containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of "The Land Act, 1892."

Sections 23 to 27, broken forest pastoral land; timber consisting of kamai, rata, and manuka, of no commercial value; height above sea-level, from 500ft. to 760ft. Section 24 has about 30 acres, and Section 25 has about 2 acres of open land; distance from Fortrose by road, from nine to ten and a half miles. Sections 28 and 29, undulating pastoral bush land, consisting of manuka and kamai bush; Section 28 has about 57 acres of open land on it, and 29 about 72 acres of open land; height above sea-level from 600ft. to 700ft. Section 30, all open land (except 3 acres kamai bush), and covered with flax, &c. Sections 31 to 47, undulating pastoral country, mostly covered with bush, such as kamai, rimu, manuka, &c.; Section 31 has 20 acres and Section 32 about 3 acres of open land on them. The bush on the whole of the above-mentioned sections is of no commercial value, and the sections vary from 400ft. to 760ft. above sea-level, and are distant from Fortrose from eight to twelve miles by road. The whole of the above-mentioned sections are well watered.

SCHEDULE.

NELSON LAND DISTRICT.

Unsurveyed Second-class Land.

ALL that block of land, containing approximately 6,000 acres, situated in the Land District of Nelson, being portions of Blocks I., V., VI., and IX., Oparara Survey District. Commencing at a point on the shores of Tasman Sea distant about one mile to the northward of the northern boundary of Section 14, Block V., Oparara District; thence by a line due east about 215 chains to the River Oparara; thence southerly along the western bank of that river to the eastern boundary of Section 49, Block IX., Oparara District; thence in a general, westerly direction, along the boundaries of Sections 49, 48, and 30, Block IX., and the northern bank of the River Oparara, to a road forming the eastern boundary of surveyed lands fronting Tasman Sea; thence in a general northerly direction along said boundary and by the public road (along the shores of Tasman Sea) to the point of commencement.

Description: The flats along Sea Beach and the River Oparara are composed of fairly good agricultural land; the remainder of the block, with the exception of a pakihi swamp of poor soil, is all low limestone hills, very much broken, but will make very good grass-land. The timber on the
