THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the
Waitotara County Council, is published in accordance
with the provisions of "The Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1886."

WAITOTARA COUNTY COUNCIL.
RESULT of the poll taken on Thursday, 5th July, 1894, on
the proposal to raise a loan of £300 for the erection of the
Kaiwhatu Bridge across the Kai-Iwi Stream, in the Toko-
maru Riding, Waitotara County:—
Number of ratepayers on roll, 6; number of votes exer-
cisable, 12: Number of ratepayers who voted in favour of
loan, 5; number of votes given in favour of the proposal, 10;
number of votes against the proposal, 0.
As a majority of the ratepayers on the roll, exercising a
majority of votes, have voted in favour of the proposal, I
therefore declare the proposal carried.

NOTICE is hereby given that the result of the poll taken on
the 12th June, 1894, on the proposal to borrow £190 from
the Colonial Treasurer for the purpose of constructing the
Forest Lakes Road within the special district is as fol-
lows:—
Ratepayers on the roll, 2; votes exercisable on the roll, 2:
Number of ratepayers who voted for proposal, 1; number of
votes recorded in favour of proposal, 1.
As the above-mentioned number of votes recorded in favour
of the proposal—namely, 1—is less than the number re-
quired, I declare the proposal to be rejected.

THE following notice, received from the Clerk to the
Patea County Council, is published in accordance
with section 2 of "The Rating Acts Amendment Act, 1893."

PATEA COUNTY COUNCIL.
RESOLUTION, That the Council of the Patea County hereby
determine that "The Rating Act, 1882," shall be in force
within the Patea County, and that all assessments of pro-
perty within the said county shall be made under the provi-
sions of subsection (6) of section 2 of "The Rating Act
Amendment Act, 1893," according to the rateable value of
such property as defined in section 2 of "The Rating Act,
1882."
I hereby certify that the above is a true copy of a resolu-
tion passed by the Patea County Council on the 5th day of
July, 1894.

River Board, is published for general information.

SPECIAL ORDER made by the Spring Creek River Board,
adopting the provisions of "The Local Bodies' Loans
Act, 1886."
That a special order is hereby made adopting the pro-
visions of "The Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1886," and that
the same shall be in force in the Spring Creek River Board
after the passing of this resolution by a meeting of the
Spring Creek River Board, and shall take effect from the
date of the gazetting of this resolution.
I hereby certify that the foregoing special order has been
duly made in accordance with the law.

Bonus on Mineral Oil manufactured from Orepuki Shale.

NOTICE is hereby given that a bonus will be paid for the
production of mineral oil under the following condi-
tions:—
- A bonus of 1s. per gallon (£5,000) will be paid on the
first 100,000 gallons of mineral oil produced from shale
obtained in the Orepuki district, Otago; the oil to be of a
quality approved of by Government, and to be sold at a fair
average market price. - Notice of intention to claim the aforesaid bonus must
be given in writing to the Colonial Secretary not later than
the 31st December, 1894. - The claim must be made before the 30th June, 1895.
- The first claimant who proves to the satisfaction of the
Government that he has fulfilled all the conditions to be the
recipient of the bonus. - The other conditions, as to quantity, priority, quality,
and value, to be fulfilled to the satisfaction of an officer ap-
pointed for the purpose by the Government.

Bonuses for Encouragement of New Zealand Hemp (Phor-
mium tenax) Industry.—Notice No. 387.

Wellington, 1st February, 1894.
BONUS NO. 1.
A BONUS of £1,750 is offered for a machine or process
for dressing New Zealand hemp (Phormium tenax)
which shall be an improvement on the machines or processes
now in use, and which shall, after trial, be found to mate-
rially reduce the cost of production, improve the product, or
increase the quantity of dressed fibre.
The following are the conditions:—
- All applications for the bonus must be sent addressed
to the Hon. the Minister of Agriculture, Wellington, and
must reach him not later than the 30th August, 1894. Each
application must be accompanied by a description of the
machine or process, particularly stating improvements on
present machines or processes, and also the cost at which
the machine or process can be supplied. - The applicants must be prepared to submit their
machines or processes to examination at such time and
place as the Government may direct. - The Government shall appoint a committee of three or
more experts, to whom all applications shall be submitted.
Such committee shall, after perusal, state what machines or
processes they deem worthy of consideration, and may in-
spect the same at any place within the colony; and, having
so inspected the whole or any of them, may direct that the
whole or any of them be brought for further trial to such
place as they may think fit.
The cost of bringing the machines or appliances on to the
ground, from within the colony, supplying the necessary
shafting, motive-power, and buildings, to be defrayed by the
Government. If any machine sent from beyond the colony
is awarded the bonus or part thereof, then the cost of
bringing such machine shall be borne by the Government.
