THE following is the result of a poll taken on the 14th April, 1894, on a proposal to borrow £3,000 for the purpose of forming and metalling the Kaitawa Ridge and other roads:—
Number of ratepayers on the roll, 19, representing 19 votes: Number of votes recorded in favour of the proposal, 10; votes not recorded, 9.
I therefore declare the proposal carried.

THE following is the result of a poll taken on the 4th May, 1894, on a proposal to raise a loan of £500 for the formation of a portion of the Ohinereiata Road:—
Number of ratepayers on roll, 5, representing 6 votes: Number of votes recorded in favour of the proposal, 4, by 3 ratepayers; votes not recorded, 2.
I therefore declare the proposal carried.

RESULT of a poll held on the 5th day of May, 1894, upon a proposal to raise a loan of £3,222 for formation, &c., on Saunders Road:—
Number of ratepayers on special roll, 15, exercising 16 votes: Number of ratepayers who voted in favour of the proposal, 13, exercising 13 votes; number of ratepayers who voted against the proposal, nil.
As a majority in number of the ratepayers voted in favour of the proposal, and the number so voting are entitled to more than one-half in number of the votes which can be exercised by the whole number of ratepayers, I declare the proposal to be carried.

SLUGGISH RIVER DRAINAGE BOARD.—SPECIAL ORDER.
NOTICE.—That the following special order will be proposed at a meeting of the Board of Trustees for the Sluggish River Drainage District to be held on Thursday, the 3rd day of May, 1894:—
“That the Sluggish River Drainage Board adopts generally ‘The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,’ and ‘The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,’ with the amendments thereto.”

I, Edward John Armstrong, Clerk to the Sluggish River Drainage Board, do solemnly declare that the special order placing this Board under the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” was duly passed by the Board at a special meeting of the Board held at the Board’s office, Palmerston North, on Thursday, the 3rd day of May, 1894, and that the said special order was duly advertised for four consecutive weeks from the 31st day of March, 1894, in conformity with the Acts bearing thereon.

PROPOSED by the Mayor, seconded by Councillor Jenks, “That, in pursuance of the powers and authority conferred by subsection (6) of section 2 of ‘The Rating Acts Amendment Act, 1893,’ the local authority called the Mayor, Councillors, and Burgesses of the Borough of Foxton doth hereby determine that ‘The Rating Act, 1876,’ shall be in force within the Borough of Foxton.”
Carried unanimously at a meeting of Council held at the Public Library on the 7th day of May, 1894, there being eight Councillors present (a full Council).
I hereby declare the above to be a true copy of resolution No. 3 of meeting of Council held on the 7th day of May, 1894.

IN view of the fact that the conventions concluded with Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and Holland come into operation on the 1st January, while the commercial treaties with Germany, Austria, and Italy, the conventions with Great Britain and Denmark, and the provisional agreement concluded with France are awaiting ratification, it becomes necessary to adopt certain measures for establishing a legitimate reciprocity until the Cortes shall have met, discussed the conventions, and submitted their suggestions for Royal sanction.
