Bonus for the Manufacture of Glass Bottles.
Colonial Secretary’s Office,
Wellington, 20th December, 1893.
NOTICE is hereby given that a bonus will be paid on glass bottles manufactured in the Colony of New Zealand, on the following conditions:—
- A bonus of 10s. per gross will be paid on the first seven hundred and fifty (750) gross of glass bottles manufactured and sold at the following prices:—
Sauce, pints, 18s. per gross.
Sauce, half-pints, 16s. per gross.
One-pound jams, 18s. per gross.
Two-pound jams, 24s. per gross.
Anchovies, 12s. per gross.
Pickles, 19s. per gross.
Lemonade, 20s. to 23s. per gross.
Soda-water, 20s. to 22s. 6d. per gross. - Notice of intention to claim the bonus must be given in writing to the Colonial Secretary on or before the 1st February, 1894.
- The claim must be made before the 1st February, 1895.
- The first claimant who proves to the satisfaction of the Government that he has fulfilled all the conditions is to be the recipient of the bonus.
- Evidence to be produced of such a nature as will enable an officer appointed by the Government to certify that the above-stated number has been actually made and sold at the above-mentioned prices.
- The bonus to be paid only on the certificate of such officer.

Prizes for Collections of Noxious Weeds and Insects.—Notice No. 368.

THE date for receiving the collections mentioned in Gazette Notice No. 365, and dated the 7th April, 1893, has been extended to the 31st March, 1894.

Prizes for Collections of Dried Specimens of Grasses and Forage Plants.—Notice No. 369.

Wellington, 9th May, 1893.
PRIZES offered for collections of dried specimens of grasses and forage plants, introduced and native, prominence being given to the most useful indigenous species. First prize, £25; second, £15.
All specimens must have been gathered in the colony.
Each specimen must be mounted on paper, 18in. by 11in., and bear, if possible, both popular and scientific names, also the name of the locality where obtained.
The collections winning the prizes are to become the property of the department, where they will remain on exhibition, with the names of the collectors affixed.
All collections for competition must be delivered at the office of the Secretary for Agriculture, at the Government Buildings, Wellington, not later than the 31st March, 1894.
Each collection must be marked with a motto, and be accompanied by a sealed envelope containing a copy of such motto, together with the full name and address of the exhibitor.
The unsuccessful exhibits will be returned to the owners carriage-free.
The judges have power to withhold the prizes if they are of opinion that none of the collections are worthy of an award.

Civil Service Senior Examination.

IN pursuance of regulations under “The Civil Service Reform Act, 1886,” notice is hereby given that for the Senior Examination of January, 1895, the period of literature will be the latter end of the eighteenth century, and the special books will be Shakespeare’s “Julius Caesar” and Thackeray’s “Esmond.”

IT is hereby notified for public information that the Hon. the Commissioner of Trade and Customs has decided to interpret “The Customs and Excise Duties Act, 1888,” in relation to the under-mentioned articles as follows:—
NOTE.—“Not otherwise enumerated” appears as n.o.e.; “other kinds” as o.k.; “articles and materials suited only for, and to be used solely in, the fabrication of goods in the colony” as a. & m.s. Articles marked thus * are revised decisions.

Tenders for Mail Steam-service to Chatham Islands.

ALTERNATIVE sealed tenders will be received at the Chief Post-office, Christchurch, until Wednesday, the 31st January, 1894, for the conveyance of mails by steamer to and from the Chatham Islands—first, for a quarterly service, and, second, for a service every other month, for a period of two years, from the 1st May, 1894, to the 30th April, 1896.
Tenders, indorsed “Tender for Chatham Islands Mail-service,” to be addressed to the Chief Postmaster, Christchurch.
Forms of tender, with the terms and conditions of contract, may be procured at any Chief Post-office.
The lowest or any tender not necessarily accepted.

Examination of Mine-managers and Engine-drivers.
Mines Department,

AN examination of candidates for certificates as First- and Second-class Mine-managers and Engine-drivers under “The Mining Act, 1891,” and “The Coal-mines Act, 1891,” will be held on Monday, the 22nd January, 1894, and three following days, at places to be hereafter named. All applications, with necessary certificates, and fee of £1, must be addressed to “The Secretary of the Board of Examiners under the Mining Act or Coal-mines Act, Wellington,” and must be received before the 1st January, 1894, or they will not be dealt with until the following examination.
