This block is situated between the railway-stations Arno and McLean’s, on the Waimate Gorge branch line, about five miles from Waimate, with a bi-weekly train-service. There is a first-class road from the latter place, and a good metalled road running through or abutting on each section, with the exception of Lot 12, which fronts on a formed road. The land is at an altitude ranging between 295ft. and 510ft, above sea-level. The sections north of the railway have a strip of land about 10 chains wide abutting on the road, which is dry and suitable for building-sites; the remaining land in the said sections being rich partly-reclaimed swamp of first-class quality, rather wet within the contour-line, 298ft. above sea-level. The sections on the south side of the railway comprise rich, partly-reclaimed swamp of the same as those on the northern side, with rather more bogwood, and partly good limestone land; the road passing through the sections marking the division between swamp and hill-land. Lot 12 is of fairly good quality, not very steep, but hummocky. Nearly the whole block has been ploughed. All south of the road intersecting Lots 5 to 11 is in English and native grasses, and all north is lying fallow after a heavy crop of turnips. At this season the School Reserve and Lots 1, 2, 3, and 4 have water in the places indicated on the plan. Lot 12 has several springs. Lots 6 to 11 have an ample supply of swamp-water, and possibly might get better by sinking wells. Lot 5 would have to entirely depend on well-sinking. These sections from their excellent position and the quality of the land should afford gardeners, small farmers, and others an opportunity to secure holdings on advantageous terms.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor this twenty-fourth day of November, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-three.
P. A. BUCKLEY,
For the Minister of Lands.
