IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one hundred and thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, James Prendergast, Knight, Chief Justice, in the name and on behalf of His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, and as his duly-appointed Deputy, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the twenty-eighth day of December, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-three; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any lands containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

These sections are situated in the Pioneer Farm-homestead Association Block, eastward of Mangamahoe and Eketahuna, towards Alfredton, and consist of undulating country covered with mixed forest. Access is via Eketahuna-Alfredton Road, or the Mangamahoe Road.

{ Makuri .. } { VII. }
This section is situated in the Coonoor Farm-homestead Association Block, on the continuation of the Makuri Valley Road to the Towai Road. The soil is good, and is covered with mixed forest. The Makuri Valley Road is formed to within a short distance; and the mileage from Makuri Township is about ten miles, and from Pahiatua about twenty-six miles.

These sections are situated in the Palmerston North Forest Reserve Farm-homestead Block, and lie on the dividing-range between Palmerston North and Pahiatua. Those sections in Block XIX. are on the main road between these towns, and those in Block II., Mangahao, some distance to the north. The sections in Block XIX. have some flat portions, and the balance throughout are hilly and broken, with fair soil, and covered with mixed timber. The average distance of the Association Block from Pahiatua is about eleven miles, and from Palmerston North thirteen miles.
