Regulations for the Transmission of Travellers' Cards by Post.
GLASGOW, Governor.
ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this thirteenth
day of October, 1893.
Present:
His Excellency the Governor in Council.
WHEREAS by Order in Council dated the fifth day of
July, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-two,
certain regulations were made, under the authority of “The
Post Office Act, 1881” (hereinafter termed “the said Act”),
for the transmission through the post, inter alia, of printed
papers, and it is expedient that further provision should be
made in respect of certain of such papers in the manner
hereinafter set forth:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power and
authority conferred by the said Act, and by and with the
advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said
Colony, doth hereby make the regulations set forth in the
Schedule hereto.
SCHEDULE.
- A CARD sent by a business firm or by a mercantile travel-
ler in the ordinary course of business (hereinafter referred to
as a “traveller's card”), announcing an intended visit to a
customer, may be sent through the post-office, under the
regulations now in force, made under “The Post Office Act,
1881,” on the 5th day of July, 1892, in accordance with the
terms and conditions therein set forth relating to printed
papers; and subject also to the terms and conditions fol-
lowing:—
(a.) A traveller's card shall be unfolded, and shall not
exceed 5½in. in length by 3¼in. in width.
(b.) It shall be in reality what it purports to be—that is
to say, a notice of the intended visit to the person
to whom it is addressed of a person employed by
the person or firm issuing the card.
(c.) The front of the card shall be used for no other pur-
pose than giving the notice of such intended visit.
(d.) The name of the person and the date of his visit
may be inserted in writing.
(e.) If any list of prices current be printed on the card
it shall be printed on the back thereof, and such
list may be altered by hand or by a mechanical
process in order to set forth fluctuations in the
market.
(f.) No other information than a list of prices current
shall be given on the card. - Any traveller's card which may not be in accordance
with these conditions will be treated as a letter, and charged
and dealt with accordingly, under any existing regulations.
