THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

All specimens must have been gathered in the colony.
Each specimen must be mounted on paper, 18in. by 11in.,
and bear, if possible, both popular and scientific names, also
the name of the locality where obtained.
The collections winning the prizes are to become the pro-
perty of the department, where they will remain on exhibi-
tion, with the names of the collectors affixed.
All collections for competition must be delivered at the
office of the Secretary for Agriculture, at the Government
Buildings, Wellington, not later than the 31st March, 1894.
Each collection must be marked with a motto, and be
accompanied by a sealed envelope containing a copy of such
motto, together with the full name and address of the
exhibitor.
The unsuccessful exhibits will be returned to the owners
carriage-free.
The judges have power to withhold the prizes if they are
of opinion that none of the collections are worthy of an
award.

Increasing Fee for Analyses of Manures.
Mines Department,
Wellington, 10th August, 1893.
By direction of the Hon. the Minister of Mines, the fee
fixed by the scale of fees issued from the Colonial
Laboratory on the 20th April, 1892, for complete analyses of
guano, bones, and superphosphates (artificial manures) shall
be increased from 10s. 6d. to £1 1s. for each analysis.

Assembly of New Zealand, passed in the forty-fourth
year of the reign of Her Majesty Queen Victoria, and in-
titled "The Marriage Act, 1880," the following name of an
Officiating Minister within the meaning of the said Act is
published for general information:—

Water taken from a Stream at Lower Hutt for the Pur-
poses of the Wellington—Eketahuna Railway.
A NOTIFICATION.
Whereas by subsection (1) of section 16 of "The
Public Works Act 1882 Amendment Act (No. 2),
1885," it is enacted that the Minister for Public Works may,
from time to time, in the manner provided by "The
Public Works Act, 1882," and any Act amending the same,
impound, divert, and take any water from any stream or
running water, or may purchase or acquire any right or
interest therein, for the purpose (inter alia) of supplying
water for the use of any railway, and the engines or ma-
chinery used thereon: And whereas by section 20 of "The
Government Railways Act, 1887," it is enacted that all
powers conferred upon Her Majesty, or the Governor in
Council, or the Governor, or the Minister, under or by virtue
of "The Public Works Act, 1882," or its amendments, or
under any other Act in force prior to the passing of "The
Public Works Act, 1882," or under any special Act, so far as
any such Act respectively relates to the management,
working, and maintenance of railways, and all matters or
things done or to be done, and all rights and privileges
accrued or accruing under or by virtue of any such Act, shall
be exercised, enforced, and enjoyed by the Commissioners in
the same way as Her Majesty, or the Governor in Council, or
the Governor, or the Minister might have exercised, enforced,
or enjoyed the same but for the passing of this Act; and
with respect thereto the Commissioners shall be substituted
for Her Majesty, the Governor in Council, or the Governor,
or the Minister, as the case may be: And whereas by
section 24 of "The Government Railways Act, 1887," it is
enacted that, where it may be necessary for the purposes of
"The Public Works Act, 1882," or any amendment thereof,
and this Act to make any Order in Council, Proclamation, or
other instrument, it shall be sufficient if the Commissioners
shall make, issue, or execute such instrument in such
manner as they deem necessary, and, when required by law,
shall notify the same in the Gazette; and any instrument
authorised under "The Public Works Act, 1882," or any
amendment thereof, to be made, executed, or issued by the
Governor in Council, the Governor, or the Minister, for all
or any of the purposes aforesaid, may be made, executed, or
issued by the Commissioners in such manner as may be
necessary to give effect to "The Public Works Act, 1882," or
any such amendment, and this Act: And whereas it is de-
sirable to impound, divert, and take water from a stream at
Lower Hutt for the purpose of supplying water for the use
of the Wellington—Eketahuna Railway, and the engines and
machinery used thereon:
Now, therefore, the New Zealand Railway Commissioners,
in exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities con-
ferred on them by "The Public Works Act, 1882," and the
Acts amending the same, and "The Government Railways
Act, 1887," and of every other power and authority enabling
them in that behalf, do hereby notify and declare that so
much of the waters of the stream which enters the railway
reserve opposite eight miles on the mileage of the said rail-
way, and which flows through Section 20, Block VIII., in the
Belmont Survey District, in the Provincial District of Wel-
lington, in the Colony of New Zealand, as will flow through
and can be diverted by means of an iron pipe of the
diameter of two inches, inserted in the said stream within
the said Section 20, is hereby taken for the purposes of the
Wellington—Eketahuna Railway, and the engines and ma-
chinery used thereon, and will hereafter be impounded and
diverted for such purposes.

Zealand Railway Commissioners, at
Wellington, this eighth day of August, (L.S.)
