The following remarks apply to the four principal boroughs only: The births in December were 182, against 196 in November, a decrease of 14. The deaths amounted to 91, against 88 in November, an increase of 3. There were 16 deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards: 3 males of 82 and 72 (2), and 2 females of 68 and 65, died at Auckland; 2 males of 83 and 72 at Wellington; 1 male of 67, and 2 females of 86, at Christchurch; 2 males of 69 and 65, and 4 females, 2 of 67 and 2 of 65, at Dunedin.

Comparison of Death-rates.—Comparing the death-rates of the four chief towns for December, Auckland is found to have the highest, 1·05 per 1,000 persons living; Dunedin follows with a rate of 1·03 per 1,000; at Wellington the rate was 0·87, and at Christchurch 0·68, per 1,000.
