About 140 acres are flat and undulating land, suitable for agriculture, the remainder being broken and steep in places, and only fit for pastoral purposes; entirely covered with forest consisting chiefly of rata and rimu, with a few kahikatea, and dense undergrowth of supplejacks; soil light and stony on ridges, but much better on the flats, and very good in places on the low grounds; well watered. Distant from Oringi Railway-station five miles, of which four miles is by a metalled road, the remaining distance by a surveyed road, which, though level, is not yet cleared for traffic.

Rough, broken country, entirely covered with forest consisting chiefly of rimu, rata, miro, and birch; the section is much exposed to westerly winds; the soil is of medium quality, but light and stony in parts; well watered. Accessible by road from Mangatera Railway-station, distant nine miles, of which five are metalled.

High, rough, steep country, with about 100 acres in the east corner of the section undulating land; entirely covered with forest, consisting of rimu, rata, miro, and birch, with dense underscrub; well watered; soil of medium quality, good in places, but poor on hill-tops, where it is invariably stony. Distant four miles and a half from Mangatera Railway-station, of which three miles is a metalled road, and the rest open for cart-traffic up to within thirty chains of the section.

Rural Lands in the Wellington Land District open for Sale or Selection.

GLASGOW, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one hundred and thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, David, Earl of Glasgow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the twenty-sixth day of July, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-three; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

Land set apart for a Special Settlement.

GLASGOW, Governor.

WHEREAS by a notification, bearing even date herewith, the sections of land therein enumerated, and known as sections twenty-two, twenty-three, twenty-four, twenty-five, twenty-six, and twenty-seven, Block I., in the Mangaone Survey District, in the Land District of Wellington, have been declared open under the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892”: And whereas the persons named in the First Schedule hereto are holders of remission certificates issued under “The Naval and Military Settlers’ and Volunteers’ Land Act, 1891,” or “The Naval and Military Settlers’ and Volunteers’ Land Act, 1892,” and are desirous of settling together in such block to form a special settlement therein:

Now, therefore, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities contained in the eighth section of “The Naval and Military Settlers’ and Volunteers’ Land Act, 1892,” I, David, Earl of Glasgow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby set apart the allotments of land in the said block which are mentioned in the Second Schedule hereto to satisfy the original applications from the said holders of remission certificates as aforesaid desirous of settling together in such block to form a special settlement therein.
