Nelson Runs Classified.

It is hereby notified for public information that the Com-
missioners appointed in pursuance of Section 189 of
"The Land Act, 1892," have reported to His Excellency the
Governor that the lands described in the Schedule hereto
have been classified by them as therein noted.

SCHEDULE.
CLASS I.โPASTORAL LANDS, BEING LANDS SUITABLE EX-
CLUSIVELY FOR PASTURAGE.
Run No. 1.
From Tophouse Run boundary to southern boundary of
Rainbow Reserve. Contains 18,000 acres, being all birch
bush with the exception of about 800 acres of open flats,
the greater part of which is held (freehold and leasehold) by
Mr. W. A. Adams. At least 5,000 acres of the bush land is
flat terraces and capable of great improvement if frontages
were obtainable. Carrying-capacity of open flats at present
equal to 500 sheep or 100 head of cattle.
Runs Nos. 2 and 3.
Rainbow Reserve and block of back country. Contains
31,000 acres, principally rough hill land and bush. About
800 acres flat land, and 5,000 acres of fair sheep-country
(tussock and snow-grass); balance bush, and rough high tops
suitable for summer country for merino sheep. Will carry
2,000 sheep with the frontages now held under lease. In-
fested with rabbits.
Run No. 4.
Part of present Tarndale Run and Crown lands. Con-
tains 28,000 acres, principally rough country. About
1,000 acres flat, partly swamp, and 6,000 acres fair tussock
hills; balance high tops suitable for summer country for
merino sheep. Will carry 2,000 sheep with the frontages
now held under lease. Infested with rabbits.
Run No. 5.
Part of present Tarndale Run and Crown lands. Con-
tains 53,000 acres, principally high rough country. About
500 acres flat land and 10,000 acres tussock land; tops very
rough and shingly. Will carry 2,000 sheep with the front-
ages now held under existing leases. Infested with rabbits.
Run No. 6.
Part of present Tarndale Run and Crown land. Contains
73,000 acres, partly in Nelson and Marlborough Districts.
About 6,000 acres flat, part swamp. A good deal of fair
sheep-country, all lower slopes covered with tussock; rough
high tops at back, with carpet-grass basins, good summer
country. Will carry 6,000 sheep with the frontages now held
under lease. Infested with rabbits.
Run No. 7.
Part of present Tarndale Run and Crown lands. Con-
tains 34,000 acres. About 5,000 acres flat land, and a good
deal of remainder good tussock land. Back country rough,
but good summer country. Will carry 10,000 sheep with
the frontages now held under lease. Infested with rabbits.
Run No. 8.
Part of present St. James Run and Crown land. Con-
tains 34,000 acres. About 9,000 acres flats along rivers; the
hills on east side of Waiau River fair sheep-country, covered
with tussock; on west side high tops available in summer.
Will carry 12,000 sheep with frontages now held under lease.
Rabbits in patches on east side of Waiau River, and odd ones
on west side. This block is included within the boundaries
of the Hurunui Rabbit Board's main line of fence.
Run No. 9.
Part of present St. James Run and Crown land. Contains
61,000 acres. About 3,000 acres flat land and 30,000 acres
good sheep-country: balance high tops with a great deal of
shingle. Will carry 10,000 sheep with frontages now held
under lease. A few rabbits all over this country. This
block is included within the boundaries of the Hurunui
Rabbit Board's main line of fence.
Run No. 10.
Part of present St. James Run and Crown land. Contains
34,000 acres. About 1,000 acres flat, part good land, and
5,000 acres of good sheep-country; balance bush on the lower
slopes, and high tops above the bush covered with snow-grass
and carpet-grass available in summer. Will carry 5,000 sheep
with the frontages now held under lease. Odd rabbits on
this block, which is included within the boundaries of Huru-
nui Board's netting fence.
Run No. 11.
Unoccupied Crown land. Contains 27,000 acres. About
400 acres flat land and 3,000 acres good sheep-country;
about 12,000 acres of the balance is bush on faces of hills;
remainder high tops above bush, covered with snow-grass
and carpet-grass, useful summer country. Will carry 2,000
sheep. Odd rabbits in this block, which is also included
within the boundaries of the Hurunui Board's netting fence.
This block is now unoccupied Crown land.
Run No. 12.
Part of present Hopefield Run and Crown land. Con-
tains 46,000 acres. About 600 acres flat terraces and 17,000
acres fair sheep-country; balance high rough country, useful
in summer. Will carry 8,000 sheep with frontages now held
under lease. Some rabbits on this block, which is included
within the boundaries of the Hurunui Board's fence. A
netting fence erected by Mr. Adams cuts off the front
country from the back. This fence is erected on country
which was held under license expiring 1893, and which is
now unoccupied Crown land.
