Rural Lands in the Otago Land District open for Sale or Selection.

GLASGOW, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one hundred and thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, David, Earl of Glasgow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the seventh day of June, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-three; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any lands containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

Consists of light pastoral land, well watered, with slope towards the Maruwenua River; average altitude, 2400ft.; about seven miles distant from Livingstone by road.

This country, known as part of Bellamy Station, is held partly by Mr. Samuel Henry and partly by the New Zealand Mortgage and Investment Association (Limited), under pastoral licenses determined on the 31st March, 1893. It is chiefly open, ridgy land, growing silver and snow tussock, with a little grass. Section 1, Block XI., contains a little birch bush; and Sections 1 and 2, Block X., and Section 1, Block V., a little manuka scrub and fern. Distance of sections from Lawrence varies from nine to thirteen miles; altitude from 800ft. to 2400ft. Section 2, Block V., is subject to valuation for fencing, £46 15s. 9d.

Subdivisions of Pastoral Run 170B, known as portion of Beaumont Station, and held by Mr. Alexander Brown, under license determined on the 31st March, 1893. The land is of fairly good quality, broken, and mostly open. It contains manuka scrub, flax, fern, and a little bush, with native grasses and clover. Portions of the sections might be utilised for growing root-crops. They are well watered by branches of the Clutha River. Section 5, Block VII., is accessible by bullock-dray about twenty-three miles from Lawrence, or by bridle-track three miles to Beaumont, and thence twelve miles by main road to Lawrence. Sections 4 and 5, Block IV., are twelve and a half to thirteen miles from Lawrence by main road. Section 6, Block IV., is accessible by bullock-dray from Lawrence, twenty-four miles distant, or from same locality, bridle-track and main road, via Beaumont, sixteen miles. Altitude varies from 700ft. to 1930ft., the ascent in places being very abrupt. Section 5, Block VII., is subject to valuation for fencing, £12 4s. 9d.; and Section 6, Block IV., to £26 12s. 9d. for same purpose.

Subdivisions of Run 221F, known as part of Moutere Station, and held by Messrs. Wright, Stephenson, and Co., under pastoral license determined on the 31st March, 1893. The above sections are of terrace formation, broken up by gullies, mostly dry, shingly, with small patches of fair land in hollows; distance from Clyde from three to four miles; altitude from 700ft. to 1000ft. Valuation for fencing must be paid as follows: Section 91, £7 16s.; Section 92, £12 8s.; Section 122, £13; Section 123, £6 8s.; and Section 124, £6 12s.
