If from any cause whatever the Public Trustee is unable to grant a lease of any of the
lands above referred to, the successful tenderer shall have no claim for damages or compen-
sation.
The area of each lot is believed to be correctly described in the foregoing list, but if the
area is less than that specified in such list the successful tenderer shall be bound to take a
lease of such lesser area without any allowance of compensation.
If the area of any lot is larger than that set out in the said list the Public Trustee
reserves the right, by notice in writing to the successful tenderer, to annul the contract, but
without payment of any compensation or damages whatever.
This notice is to be deemed part of any contract for the grant of a lease of any of the
above-mentioned lands to any successful tenderer.

Remarks.—Fine weather early part of month until night
of 9th, when rain came on; heavy rain on 10th from N.W.,
changing during day to S., and blowing a strong S.W. gale;
very strong gale on night of 10th, and heavy rain, 5·70in.
falling in twenty-four hours and causing heavy floods; rain
continued up to 11 a.m. on 11th, and in about thirty-six hours
6·12in. rain fell—the heaviest on record; the remainder of
month generally fine, with a few showers towards the end.
Maximum temperature in shade, 71; minimum, 44; mean
temperature of dewpoint, 47·4; mean humidity, 70. Slight
earthquake on 17th, at 1 a.m.
