Notice to Mariners, No. 6 of 1893.
Marine Department,
Wellington, 27th February, 1893.
THE following Notices to Mariners, received from the
Portmaster, Brisbane, Queensland, are published for
general information.
R. J. SEDDON.

BRISBANE RIVER.—BUOYS AND BEACONS AWAY FROM POSI-
TION.—VICTORIA BRIDGE DESTROYED.—FLOATING MAGA-
ZINE AND HOSPITAL HULK “BEATRICE” AWAY FROM
MOORINGS.

Notice is hereby given that, as a result of the late disastrous
flood, all the buoys and a number of the beacons marking
the channels of the Brisbane River are away from their
positions, and all the dredged cuttings must be navigated
with the utmost caution, as, until examined, no reliance can
be placed on their original depths.
The buoys and beacons will be replaced as soon as practi-
cable.
The northern half of Victoria Bridge having been swept
away, vessels are cautioned against navigating that portion
of the river until an examination of the bottom has been
made, when the best navigable channel will be marked. As
soon as practicable a red light will be exhibited at night-
time at the broken end of the bridge.
The floating magazine recently moored at Eagle Farm is
now above Lytton, well over on the south shore.
The hospital hulk “Beatrice” is at present moored in the
fairway, above the Naval Stores.
Both these vessels will be removed at the earliest oppor-
tunity.
T. M. ALMOND,
Portmaster.
Department of Ports and Harbours,
Brisbane, 7th February, 1893.

BRISBANE RIVER.—ALTERATION IN DEPTH OF DREDGED
CHANNELS.

Notice is hereby given that the dredged channels are silted
up, and have less water than formerly. The net depths at
low-water springs in the various channels now are as follows,
viz.: Bar cutting, 14ft.; inner bar cutting, 13ft.; Pelican
Bank cutting, 14ft.; Lytton Rocks, 15½ft.; above Lytton,
15½ft.; Eagle Farm Flats, 12½ft.; Quarries Reach, 15ft.;
Hamilton Reach, 12½ft.
The front leading beacons for Eagle Farm Flats cutting,
Lytton Rocks lead, and the inner bar lead are down, but will
be replaced as soon as possible.

KEPPEL BAY LIGHTSHIP AWAY FROM POSITION.

Notice is hereby given that, as a result of the bad weather
experienced at Keppel Bay during the last few days, the
lightship “Lily” is away from her position, but the leading
lights into Keppel Bay are all in order.
The lightship will be replaced as soon as practicable.
