Steep mountain-sides (very cold in winter); mixed bush—birch, rimu, and a few totara; access by road up the Wangapeka and Dart Rivers.

All that block of land containing approximately 13,000 acres, situated in the Land District of Nelson, being portions of Blocks IV., V., VI., IX., and X., Pakawau Survey District. Bounded towards the northward and north-westward partly by Pakawau Creek, partly by track leading from Pakawau to West Wanganui, partly by surveyed sections, and partly by West Wanganui Inlet; towards the south-westward partly by Section No. 1, Square No. 17, partly by Crown lands, and partly by Section No. 5, Block XIII., Pakawau District; and towards the south-eastward and eastward partly by surveyed sections and partly by a block of second-class lands, as described in a Proclamation dated the 17th September, 1890. Cash price, 5s. per acre; occupation with right of purchase, rent, 3d. per acre; lease in perpetuity, rent, 2¼d. per acre.

Very rough, broken ranges, mostly covered with heavy bush; access principally by the road between Pakawau Inlet and West Wanganui Inlet.

Rural Lands in the Marlborough Land District open for Sale or Selection.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one hundred and thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892” (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), I, David, Earl of Glasgow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection, after the lapse of a period of not less than thirty days from the date of the first public notification hereof in the New Zealand Gazette, in the manner and upon the conditions mentioned in the said Act, and at the price per acre stated in the said Schedule.

These sections are situated at Rai Valley, and are partly hill and partly terrace and flat, and covered with timber, principally birch, rimu, matai and white-pine in places; soil good, clay soil on hills and terraces, and loamy on the lower flats skirting the streams. The coach-road from Blenheim to Nelson passes within a distance of from half a mile to a mile of these sections.
