Selectors will have the privilege of choosing, subject to reasonable restrictions, the precise locality and area of their future holdings, with the additional advantage of securing good fencing boundaries on ridges and spurs where available.

Rural Lands in the Nelson Land District open for Sale or Selection.

GLASGOW, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one hundred and thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892” (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), I, David, Earl of Glasgow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection, after the lapse of a period of not less than thirty days from the date of the first public notification hereof in the New Zealand Gazette, in the manner and upon the conditions mentioned in the said Act, and at the price per acre stated in the said Schedule.

SCHEDULE.

SECOND-CLASS LAND.—NELSON LAND DISTRICT.

ALL that block of land in the Nelson Land District, containing 21,000 acres, more or less, situated in the Takaka and Mount Arthur Survey Districts respectively. Bounded towards the northward generally by the surveyed lands in Blocks XV. and XIX., Takaka District; towards the eastward by the summit of the Main Range; towards the southward by the Flora Creek Track; and towards the westward by the River Takaka to its junction with Grecian Creek; thence up that creek to the crossing of Smith’s Track; thence by the said track to where it joins Tarrant’s Track; thence by the latter track to Baron’s Creek; thence by that creek and the River Takaka to the limits of the surveyed lands.

Cash price, 7s. 6d. per acre; occupation with right of purchase, rent, 4½d. per acre; lease in perpetuity, rent, 3½d. per acre.

Also all that block of land in the Nelson Land District, containing 5,000 acres, more or less, situated in the Takaka Survey District. Bounded towards the northward by a line drawn from the western corner of Section No. 3, Block XI., Takaka District, to Sub-trig. II.; towards the westward by the summit of the range, and thence by a leading spur to a point on the River Cobb about one mile from the junction of same with the River Takaka; towards the southward by the River Cobb; and towards the eastward by the River Takaka to the south-western boundary of Section No. 3, Block XI., Takaka District; and thence to the point of commencement.

Cash price, 7s. per acre; occupation with right of purchase, rent, 4¼d. per acre; lease in perpetuity, rent, 3¼d. per acre.

A sum of money has been added to the price to cover the cost of roading without metalling.

The most suitable country for sheep is the slopes, not so steep as those within the limestone belt, well watered and easy of access from the Motueka side of the range. There is very little undergrowth, and the timber, principally a stunted red birch, is light. The land between Deep Creek and Horse-shoe Creek is fine grass-growing country, well watered, but with steep slopes in places, kiekie growing very thick in patches. The belt of country between the Rivers Takaka and Cobb is very poor, with light bush and undergrowth of kiekie. The northern end of the block is accessible from Upper Takaka, and is distant twenty-four miles from the villages of Waitapu and Motueka respectively. The southern end is more readily approached via the Graham River Track from the latter village, from which it is distant twenty-two miles or thereabout.

A block of land containing 2,575 acres, more or less, being the unsurveyed portion of Block XVI., Wangapeka Survey District.

Rough bush hills, fair soil. Access to the north-western slopes of the range by proposed branch roads from the main Tadmor Valley Road, from which the land described is distant about one and a half miles; and to the south-eastern slopes by branch roads proposed to connect with the main Nelson and West Coast Road, distant about two miles.

Cash price, 6s. 6d. per acre; occupation with right of purchase, rent, 4d. per acre; lease in perpetuity, rent, 3d. per acre.

A block of land containing 6,246 acres, being Block V., Totaranui Survey District.

Rough bush hills, fair soil. Access by proposed tracks up the Wainui and Little Rivers respectively. The Wainui River is distant from the Port of Waitapu about twelve miles, and a track leading from that port to Totaranui passes the mouth of the Wainui River. The Little River is accessible from Awaroa, from which it is distant about four miles. A track is proposed from Awaroa to the land described herein.

Cash price, 7s. per acre; occupation with right of purchase, rent, 4¼d. per acre; lease in perpetuity, rent, 3¼d. per acre.

All that piece or parcel of land in the Nelson Land District, situated in the Waitapu Survey District, containing approximately 4,350 acres, and being the unsurveyed portions of Blocks V. and IX., Waitapu Survey District aforesaid. Cash price, 6s. per acre; occupation with right of purchase, rent, 3¾d. per acre; lease in perpetuity, rent, 2¾d. per acre.

Rough hills, chiefly birch bush.

All that piece or parcel of land in the Nelson Land District, situated in the Totaranui Survey District, containing approximately 11,000 acres, and being the unsurveyed portions of Blocks I., II., III., IV., VI., and VII., Totaranui Survey District aforesaid. Cash price, 6s. per acre; occupation with right of purchase, rent, 3¾d. per acre; lease in perpetuity, rent, 2¾d. per acre.

Rough hills, birch bush.

All those pieces or parcels of land in the Nelson Land District, situated in the Motueka Survey District, containing approximately 6,680 acres, and being the unsurveyed portions of Blocks II., VI., VII., IX., and XI., Motueka Survey District aforesaid. Cash price, 6s. per acre; occupation with right of purchase, rent, 3¾d. per acre; lease in perpetuity, rent, 2¾d. per acre.

Low hills, fern land principally.

All those pieces or parcels of land in the Nelson Land District, situated in the Wangapeka Survey District, containing approximately 12,000 acres, and being the unsurveyed portions of Blocks III., IV., VII., XI., and XII., Wangapeka Survey District aforesaid. Cash price, 6s. per acre; occupation with right of purchase, rent, 3¾d. per acre; lease in perpetuity, rent, 2¾d. per acre.

Rough wooded hills, chiefly birch timber.

All that piece or parcel of land in the Nelson Land District, situated in the Wakapuaka Survey District, containing approximately 2,600 acres, and being the unsurveyed portions of Block X., Wakapuaka Survey District aforesaid. Cash price, 6s. per acre; occupation with right of purchase, rent, 3¾d. per acre; lease in perpetuity, rent, 2¾d. per acre.

Rough hills, birch bush.

All that block of land in the Nelson Land District, situated in the Waimea and Rintoul Survey Districts, containing approximately 1,900 acres. Bounded generally towards the northward by Sections Nos. 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, and 25, Square No. 44; on the eastward partly by Sections Nos. 32 and 25, Square No. 44, and partly by the River Lee; on the southward by Crown lands; and on the westward partly by a public road known as the Chrome Road, and partly by Section No. 6, Square No. 44. Cash price, 6s. per acre; occupation with right of purchase, rent, 3¾d. per acre; lease in perpetuity, rent, 2¾d. per acre.

Situated on the River Lee; access by roads up that river; soil inferior, chiefly birch forest.

All that piece or parcel of land in the Nelson Land District, situated in the Motueka Survey District, containing approximately 5,727 acres, being the unsurveyed portion of Block V., Motueka Survey District aforesaid. Cash price, 6s. per acre; occupation with right of purchase, rent, 3¾d. per acre; lease in perpetuity, rent, 2¾d. per acre.

Fair soil, principally birch forest; access by roads up Pokororo and Little Pokororo Streams.

All that piece or parcel of land in the Nelson Land District, situated in the Mount Arthur Survey District, containing approximately 23,865 acres, being the unsurveyed portions of Blocks VII., VIII., XI., XII., XV., and XVI., upon the eastern side of the Mount Arthur Range, Mount Arthur Survey District aforesaid. Cash price, 6s. per acre; occupation with right of purchase, rent, 3¾d. per acre; lease in perpetuity, rent, 2¾d. per acre.

Fair soil, covered with forest, principally birch; access by roads up the Rivers Pearse and Graham.

All that block of land in the Nelson Land District, situated in the Aorere Survey District, containing approximately 2,000 acres, extending from the saddle at the head of Victoria Creek in a general south-westerly direction of Silverstream, being available hill lands at the back of surveyed sections in Blocks II. and VI., Aorere Survey District. Cash price, 6s. per acre; occupation with right of purchase, rent, 3¾d. per acre; lease in perpetuity, rent, 2¾d. per acre.

Rather steep hills, thickly timbered with birch, rimu, and rata; access by proposed roads up Bonnie Doon Valley and Silverstream.

All that block of land containing approximately 500 acres in the watershed of Victoria Creek, Block III., Aorere Survey District. Cash price, 6s. per acre; occupation with right of purchase, rent, 3¾d. per acre; lease in perpetuity, rent, 2¾d. per acre.

Chiefly hill land, birch and rimu timber; access from Kaituna Valley Road.
